Thought I was going to bad mouth them? Wrong! I have to travel once in a while for my job and the evenings are usually either spent laying on the bed and watching TV or drinking with associates down at the bar. I’m not overly fond of either. This time, I poked some virtuals in my GPSR and got to do some caching and seeing some areas that I’d otherwise would not have. I must say, I’ve taken the eMap along for this on all trips this year, but now having the the Garmin V, this was the first that I ventured into a strange area in a big city, at night, without being concerned about getting ”bewildered”. I saw some interesting things while not having to leave the van. For example, one took me to a rock with a bronze plaque saying that the coordinates were N45 00.000 and W????. Care to guess where I was? The other took me to a neighborhood with a family that likes zany art in their yard. Oddly, Socko placed a very similar one this week, just like it. Another took me to a strange fixture, often found by railroads, but nobody seems to know what it is. Check out ”Lucifer’s Elbow”. So, it’s a big world out there and the GPS helps to reveal much of it to us. Thank you to the placers of virtual caches for making an out of town trip a little more like home.

Due to our unease about being in the woods during hunting season my wife and I have a virt-only (mostly) trip planned for tomorrow. One physical cache and 6 virtuals are scheduled. I actually got her to take a day off of work to go on this. Can a Garmin V be far behind? I enjoy the virts mostly because they get me to places I normally would not go. Some may think they’re lame and others may not, but it’s my belief that the value of this game is the quest, not the destination.

How do the Angels get to sleep when the Devil leaves the porch light on?

Hwy 42 Rest Stop, Door County. We have seen this one a couple of times. It is a good spot for a picnic.
Vert can mean virtue as virtual. As they have additional virtues in that one can place them where ever one finds something of interest on the road. Trudy & I set one up in Ohio while on a visit. Locals overlook some of the most interesting features in their own backyards. We need not worry about maintaining this cache 550 miles from our home. Another virtue is that they are not prone to theft or plundering.
To make a long story short, I believe that each type of cache has its own merits.
    Keep on Caching,
