I just saw the Spring Campout publish, the big question is to go or not to go.  There’s time to think about it.

The buck stops here. . .and gets entered into Where's George.

Where's George? Stimulating the economy one EMS'ed dollar at a time.

FTP for a frigid Monday morning. Minus 16 here.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

So, we have got new web hosting service. Let us know if you see any improvement in the speed. Inquiring minds would like to know especially here since this is the most used forum on the site.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I don’t remember seeing a double post  with a two and a half hour time delay with the old web hosting service.  🙂

I’m not yet sure what to make of the new web hosting service.  There are a few glitches.

            1. With any other web link on my computer, when selecting it (Yahoo, weather, Google, eBay, Amazon, Geocaching, etc.) the address *immediately* appears in the address bar, and the website loads typically with a second or two.  With the WGA website, after selecting the link to go to the website, it takes about 5 to 10 seconds for the address to appear in the address bar, which at first made me wonder if it wasn’t responding at all.  But it did eventually appear and the page then loaded.  I tried this several times with two different browsers (I.E. and Firefox).  I also clicked on about 6 or 7 other websites to see if they loaded “normally” within a second or two and they did.  This is with a fast cable connection at home via Spectrum.

            2. When posting a message, when I click on “submit,” the page doesn’t change – even after a minute or two.  It just shows you the same view as if you did not yet click submit.  If you assume it didn’t work and then click submit again, still no change.  However, if you then refresh the page, you will see that the message has indeed been posted, and if you did the submit thing twice, your message is posted twice.  My guess is Dawn got fooled the same way, seeing as the two posts immediately before this one are identical.  I tried this with both I.E. and Firefox; both experienced this issue.

            3. As for overall speed, once I get to the WGA website, each subsequent page loads in about 6 to 12 seconds.  Seems okay, but I’m not sure if it is a significant improvement.  I’m guessing it’s about the same.

For me, it seems about the same as before.  I use Chrome and haven’t tried other browers.

We are 11 days from surpassing our “longest slump.”  Chances are we might just do that, since we don’t have any caching plans anytime soon.  Only thing might be if we can get out and do some ice walking yet….otherwise…nope!  None of the ice walking options are nearby, though we might be able to pick one up if we head north as planned this weekend for family stuff.

Our latest geocaching goal is to have our 366-day calendar filled a minimum of 10 times.  We’ve had our calendar completed for several years now, but not with double digits.  There are only 13 days for us on the calendar with less than 10 finds.  Today is one of them (we have 7 finds, need 3 more).  Unfortunately, one of those needed dates is February 29th.  We only have 8 finds on that date, and will have to wait until 2020 until it comes around again.  So if all goes well, we’ll have our 10x grid filler completed on 2-29-2020.  It seems so far away…

Actually, there was only the one when I posted earlier this morning. I see the double post now as I haven’t had the time to pop on here since. Very interesting, though . . .

I know MTCLMBR said it may take about 48 hours for some browsers to “resolve” themselves with the new web host. He’s probably reading this, too 😉

The BOD minutes, HamFam’s request for volunteers, and the Campout thread say the campout is at Governor Thompson park, but the nametag thread says Governor Dodge park… just wanting to get clarification.  Thanks.

Thank you for pointing that out, totally my mistake.  It has been corrected and the campout will be at Governor Thompson State Park

Thanks for checking.  That’s closer for me.  I hope to attend at least for part of the weekend.

Well, some days are good days.  This morning I waited patiently to get a nice photo of an Eastern Screech Owl peeking out of its tree hole.  Then I got an email from the owner of the yoga studio where I practice.  They are giving members who have attained a certain number of classes cool handmade mala bracelets (one of the instructors makes them).  I’m one of the “committed yogis” as the email stated.  Or does it mean I need to be committed?  *eye roll*
