:ftp: for page 1072!
07/21/2019 at 3:54 pm #2063765I stopped off at Baskin Robbins this afternoon to get out of the heat. Turns out they were still recovering from the power outage even though the power came back on in that neighborhood this morning. I had a couple other spots to stop at, but I came back half an hour later and they were open for the day. I was talking to the manager, and she said they lost quite of bit of ice cream the other day.

07/21/2019 at 5:10 pm #2063766You’d better stay in the breakroom, Deb. It looks like there’ll be another round rolling through this afternoon 🙁
I should have, if only because they had power. 29+ hours without it at home, but it just came back on. Very grateful. For some, it may still be days. 😦 So eerie with such big areas of darkness. And also the random pockets of power…one stoplight working in the middle of a several mile stretch. 🚦
07/21/2019 at 10:56 pm #2063768Word on the street is that there are currently 800,000 without power in Michigan, and those still without power here in Wisconsin will be receiving help from power companies from out of state.

for July 22! First day of EAA. I hope everyone fared OK with this weekend’s storms.I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

07/22/2019 at 8:13 am #2063770A few years ago we were losing power two or three times a year.
I bought a generator and set it up in my garage, upon hearing this the power company assembled a crew and went out and cleared the trees along their lines and my generator sat unused. Usually after sitting for years collecting junk on top of it a generator would need the fuel system cleaned and flushed before it would start but the one I’ve got is fueled by LP so this last winter when an ice storm took down the lines I simply took the tank from the grill and after a few more pulls on the rewind than I would have liked I had power at my house.
I’ve had one power outage this spring but it was so short that I didn’t bother with it but that may be a sign that the trees are growing back.
07/22/2019 at 8:59 am #2063771We originally were given an estimate of 10:00 PM Sunday for restoration of power. Sunday morning they bumped that up to 8:00 am Monday, and Sunday evening they bumped it again, to 10:00 am Tuesday. About 9:50 last night the lights came back on.

Which storm hit you worse, Friday or Saturday?

07/22/2019 at 4:38 pm #2063773If I would have been able to get on her on Saturday afternoon, I would have told this then. It happens that I was in the market for a new razor anyway, and was contemplating where to get one. Not really thinking about it on Saturday morning, I set out for De Pere to go to Culver’s for lunch. As I was going past the Wal Mart, I hear the sirens sound off. I decide that the best thing to do was drop my plans and just head into Wal Mart, even though Culver’s was just across the parking lot. After hanging out there for about an hour, I figured I was right there and found the razors. I picked one out and paid for it on the way out and went on my way to Culver’s after the tornado warnings had lifted.
The reason I didn’t come here on Saturday is that my power was out when I got home. I still could have posted here if I wanted to from my phone, but what little power I had left is what I needed to dedicate to finding out the severity of the storms and the aftermath. Word on the street is that there might even be a bunch of caches archived in the northwoods, at least 51 that I’ve heard, maybe more.

07/24/2019 at 3:23 pm #2063781Wow! Just got back from picking up our 5 Room 2 Roam-Peony caches. Only forgot 1 thing…WATER! That was not fun, but a cancellation from work gave me the afternoon off. Came across a humming bird in the middle of a major bushwhack. Either there was a nest nearby or he was wondering “What the heck…!” Heard a few deer but no way to see them.
Kudos to the cachers that found these in the summer. I obviously hid them at a different time of year!
07/25/2019 at 6:29 am #2063788FTP for Thursday the 25th of July!
07/25/2019 at 6:47 am #2063789k to Iowa today to clean out my sister’s house and for her memorial service. I’m about 85% done cleaning up my own basement from last weekend’s flooding. The remaining 15% will have to wait until next week.
