. . .FTP on page 1,100!
The buck stops here. . .and gets entered into Where's George.

10/21/2019 at 10:17 am #2064397My dad informed me that he’s going to be selling his house soon. It’s the only house they owned that I remember. They had a few places before settling into this house just before they adopted me.
It’s been a big year of changes for him. No more Packers tickets. Then two-stints and a pacemaker. Now the house will be gone and he’s applying to go to the retirement home just a block away.
My wife also informed me that she’s determined that she can’t live in our new house because there is so much wrong – so once we sell our first house, this one is going to hit the market and we need to find a new place. That went over about as well as a fart in church.
Then, we were going to go to the Oktoberfest party at a local supper club. Our son is extremely into everything German. He’s even taught himself German. If you meet him, don’t ask him about tanks unless you have an hour or two of free time because he will tell you everything about them and how they compare to panzers. Anyway, he and I were going to go because “the girls” (as he calls my wife and daughter) weren’t feeling well. We get to the place and as soon as we walk in there’s a Fraulein next to table of steins asking us our names and checking a list. I told her we didn’t know we had to preregister. She told us it was suggested, but not required. We just needed to pay $60 and then it was all you can eat and drink. I asked, “Each?” And she seemed surprised that we didn’t have that kind of money just ready to burn. We left.
We’ve been to this place multiple times. We’ve always known that we were probably the only “locals” there because the conversations around us were about “closing up the house soon” or “heading to Cay (or other posh sounding non-locality)” next month. We’ve asked staff about the party. We’ve read the literature they have displayed. No one every mentioned registering. Nothing we read mentioned it, or the cost.
Now we’re dealing with a kid that has slowly been coming back into the family structure who is mad at the world again.
Trying to think of a way to conclude this, but I’m just getting more and more upset at how things went this past weekend.

Yes, I remember reading the thread a long time before posting in it, because it seemed to have its own etiquette and games. I actually asked sandlanders to explain some of it, so I wouldn’t make a faux pas. It was fun to be in on the jokes, and to enlighten new folks when I could.
10/21/2019 at 11:01 pm #2064405Yep, back in the day I would have been way too late to get in on a 00 page. Back then you weren’t supposed to post more than 2 consecutive post to get a FTP, otherwise it was considered a “Cheapie”. Of course some people didn’t care about that, and would burn page after page in a matter of an hour or two.

10/22/2019 at 10:17 am #2064410We have several maples on our property that are so large my wife and I together can’t reach around them. One of them was hollow and came down on its own after days of slowly tipping. That one made sense because half of the tree had been cut off after a big storm years ago, so the hollow part had much less weight than the part that was growing. Yesterday, I got a text from my wife showing that another one, next to the driveway, lost one side of its bark. Once I got home, I could barely get my car over it. Most of it broke up on impact, but two sheets were over 7′ x 3′ in area. Hoping that one of them is still solid enough to turn it into a bench. The other one I dumped into the chicken pen for them to dig through.
I had the same thoughts about “getting in” on the 00 page. My, how times have changed.

10/22/2019 at 1:42 pm #2064411Well might as well get in as well. Also the Walgreens we stopped at was out of flu shots, they are hoping to have some available come the first of November. I guess when they say there is a shortage there is.

I called my doctor’s office and they told me just stop by. Took me longer to drive to Winneconne than to get the shot.

10/22/2019 at 4:38 pm #2064413Yeah, it’s not anything like it used to be in here. Sigh.
I took advantage of a sale to order the little metal plate to register our Little Free Library. Now I just have to build the darn thing. 😀
