12/04/2019 at 7:35 am #2065001Happy 4th . . .
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

12/04/2019 at 3:30 pm #2065003What is up with all this violence in the schools????
I was at UW-Madison for a workshop yesterday. I spent most of today talking to my classes (on the first day of class this trimester) about my experience up in Marinette and how we are better prepared now to handle things like what has been happening this week. (I think we did exactly what should have been done in Marinette and don’t mean to say anything negative about how the staff, etc. reacted then.)
Lots of sullen faces and serious looks. I broke down and cried each time. It’s hard to say that I’m thankful that the boy involved only committed suicide rather than kill his classmates as well, but that’s the truth.
We still don’t have any answers to why he did what we did, but it helps me talk to my kids about things and encourage them to say something if they hear or see something, and that we have a plan, what to do, and how I feel safe being here or I wouldn’t be here.

It’s a very sad situation when you have to talk to your students about keeping safe in case of a situation like that.
I’m sorry you have already experienced something such as that.

12/05/2019 at 8:25 am #2065006Last night we scored an FTF for our 100th consecutive month. We typically try for one per month and then wait until any additional new caches have been found by others, so they can have the fun of an FTF too. The last month in which we didn’t get an FTF was August 2011. It sure helps that there are a number of like-minded cachers in our area that also will find one or two and then stop FTF chasing for the month so others can get in on the FTF bandwagon. Having said that, if someone goes for them all and scoops up an entire series, that’s OK too, just not our thing.
12/05/2019 at 3:58 pm #2065007Since our computers are almost 10 years old and Windows 7 won’t be supported much longer, we got new ones for each other for Christmas. They arrived today. We have a techie friend who’ll help transfer photo and document files, but I just downloaded chrome and it synced all my stuff from the old one….just like that!
12/05/2019 at 5:13 pm #2065008Carpe diem for the 32nd of November:)
I just bought a new laptop too for the same reason…ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas to me and to you:)Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
12/05/2019 at 6:39 pm #2065009Did you find a way to get the old solitaire games on it? I guess the stuff now is full of ads and stupid bells and whistles. I just want solitaire, spider and free cell. Is that so much to ask????
12/06/2019 at 7:05 am #2065010FTP for the 6th of December!
12/06/2019 at 8:02 am #2065011I’m watching dump trucks rolling up and down the street hauling snow away from the Fire Hall, EMT services, and County Governent buildings. The City is still digging out, with crews working 10 hour days or more.

12/06/2019 at 8:07 am #2065012Most of you know I have a mentally handicapped sister. She calls me every morning Mon-Fri because that’s her routine since our both our parents are gone now. She was so sad this morning because St. Nick didn’t come to her apartment last night. I felt really bad for her. And then she asked me to tell Santa she would like Bucks and Admirals tickets for Christmas. I luv that she still believes in Santa 🙂

12/06/2019 at 8:36 am #2065013Not to worry T and B you will be addicted to a new version of spider and free cell soon enough.
12/06/2019 at 10:15 am #2065014If we managed to crank out another ~80 posts today we could get back on the carpe diem bandwagon
