:ftp: Ā for page 1146!
01/02/2020 at 10:19 am #2065314Beginning to put together an article now for the Winter WGA Newsletter. Then getting ready to get my “timing documents” ready for the Saturday Brule Valley Ski Race. I figured out this is my 12th year involved in the timing aspect. Unfortunately one of the long time timing personnel will be unable to come with their laptop So being down a key person and a much needed laptop will be a difficult adjustment. Let’s bring on the stress! and the holidaze have passed.

Awesome on both accounts š good luck with the timing. I am sure you’ll do great!
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/03/2020 at 6:19 am #2065318Working on getting another laptop computer updated today. Should be fun as I haven’t touched the keyboard for over a year now. Can’t wait to “wait” on the updates and get the programs running.

Eeek! Fun times!

01/03/2020 at 8:34 am #2065323Hmmmm . . . it’s been suggested that the WGA should restructure on social media. How would it be restructured? Why don’t people want to run for the BOD?

Great question!Ā I think the answer might vary from person to person to some degree.
The buck stops here. . .and gets entered into Where's George.
Where's George? Stimulating the economy one EMS'ed dollar at a time.
01/03/2020 at 12:22 pm #2065327It does seem that the social media sites get more action, but there are folks who aren’t on those sites, too, so there needs to be a way to include them, rather than excluding them.Ā As to why there isn’t more interest in running for the BOD….can’t answer that one for you.Ā I did my stint and enjoyed my time, but I’m involved in other activities now.
01/03/2020 at 2:06 pm #2065328We get a lot of nominations but those nominations are usually turned down by the nominee.
@Chris-I understand your situation. And, I understand someone that has previously on the BOD like Trekkin and Birdin. Personally, I wouldn’t want to run again because it would be nice to see new and fresh ideas brought by another BOD.
In the last 3 years, I think the BOD has done some cool things like the yearly themes, cool merchandise, POTM, POTY, and by gosh, the raffle prizes we have been able to give away! We (the entire WGA) were also featured on Discover Wisconsin during the Spring Campout at Big Eau Plaine County Park.
For the 15th year, the WGA provided hot dogs and cake at the picnic as a give back to the members. This past picnic they did hot dogs, brats, and burgers as another give back. And come February 8th, there’s not going to be a cost for the chili. This will be a thank you to the members for supporting the WGA as well as for the outgoing BOD for their time.
It would be really nice to see things like that in the future.

01/04/2020 at 7:02 am #2065332FTP for Saturday.Ā Didn’t know I was going ice skating this morning!Ā Safe travels whatever your road conditions.
01/04/2020 at 8:28 am #2065333The more members and viewers that use the FB site, the less involvement is being seen on the WGA site.
I rarely visit the FB page, as I don’t want to contribute to something that shouldn’t have been started(imo). The one-on-one personal contact with members by the BODs, as well as the member-to-member banter, was gone. This site was available for discussions (sometimes heated!) and member polls/surveys that were valuable to the seated BODs. On a public FB page, anyone can comment or be censored by an administrator. I realize that it is easy to go on FB and click-click-click from one page to the next, to the next to the next. I often thought that the best part of geocaching was getting people OFF their devices to go out and have some fun in the great outdoors.
If you want members to come back to this site, shut down the others. It will take a few years to fix the fracture (if it can be fixed). I realize that the BODs NEEDS this site as an archive for the Association, as well as online motions for the good of the group. It also needs a reliable site for POTM, since the Association page doesn’t support it…I guess.
It WAS refreshing to see input on the Picnic/Campout issue, especially the number of members that took the time to vote. It was a good start. It lets the members know that their opinions are valued.
01/04/2020 at 5:58 pm #2065339It’s been about a year and half, for various reasons, since I worked as a construction volunteer with Habitat.Ā They have a huge salvage project the next couple weeks and I just signed up for some hours with that.Ā I’ll see how things go; maybe I’ll get back on one of the construction crews again.

This was an interesting observation by Jim. I tend to agree.
It’s been an interesting week in Oconto. The city has brought in a barge with a large crane on to break up the ice clogging up the lower river and creating the ice jams that caused the flooding. The problem is that the bay is frozen and there’s no place for the ice flows to go…am not sure that the plan is going to work. And it could be an even more interesting spring with the high water on the bay and lake.
But we’re heading to TX again next week…will have to monitor from afar.Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
