Speaking of renewables, let’s renew this thread with a new page!

02/05/2020 at 10:10 am #2065767Weāre hoping to get solar installed on our land soon. No idea when āsoonā is because of the other work that needs to be done on the house first, chiefly wiring. Havenāt even had time to look at a business to get a quote from, but weāre very interested.
We used Northwind Renewable Energy out of Stevens Point.
Was there a cache on their property in the past? Or was it where the renewable expo was held? Something like that. It is archived now.

02/05/2020 at 1:06 pm #2065768We had solar rooftop panels on our house when we bought it for heat.Ā They weren’t installed by a professional and led to a lot of issues with leakage into the house.Ā Sad to say, they came off when we re-roofed after cleaning up the rot they’d caused.
I do know a few folks who have managed to be off the grid.Ā Usually through a combination of solar, wind and wood heat.Ā Kind of like our feelings about hosting a celebration event….we’ve gotten lazy, as the wood stove went, too.Ā Properly done it’s great.Ā Ours wasn’t properly done.Ā [:(]
In the meantime….there’s a tornado watch here right now.Ā Trekkin’ is out burning off energy exploring.Ā Where the heck do we go in a house with no basement?Ā (I’m not too concerned…it’s just humid with cold air behind it….so they issue the watch).
02/05/2020 at 4:34 pm #2065769In the meantimeā¦.thereās a tornado watch here right now. Trekkinā is out burning off energy exploring. Where the heck do we go in a house with no basement? (Iām not too concernedā¦itās just humid with cold air behind itā¦.so they issue the watch).
At first by tornado I thought you meant Trekkin’ as a man feeling cooped up and getting out to explore like crazy.Ā But you meant an actual watch?Ā I didn’t see it posted.Ā Maybe it is cancelled now.Ā I haven’t had a basement for many years now.Ā There have been a few storms where I have been in an interior closet or in the bathtub.Ā At least, those were the recommended places I had heard.
02/05/2020 at 6:33 pm #2065770Debby, We’re spending the month in Natchez MS.Ā Cold front moved through this afternoon after a really humid and warm day.Ā Maybe that’s why you didn’t see it.Ā But your other assessment regarding Trekkin’ feeling cooped up….that’s about right on!Ā We’re going slowly with leaving the dog behind.Ā There’s this BBQ place around the corner that has top ratings and smells SO good.Ā Hopefully I don’t have to cook tomorrow night!
Mardi Gras is a big deal here, we’re learning.Ā We need to pick up some door decorations or something…there’s a big display when you head into Wally World (no Target).Ā We’re seeing them all around town, like Christmas lights.Ā They have a Krewe and there’s a parade later this month.Ā Probably not as wild as the one in NOLA, but it will be a new experience for us!

That’s pretty awesome, but stay safe!!!

02/05/2020 at 6:43 pm #2065772Oh, I didn’t know you were in Mississippi.Ā I thought it was strange if it had been Wisconsin, although there have been tornadoes here in every month of the year.Ā So you’ll be missing the chili, but you get BBQ, so that’s a fair trade.Ā Enjoy your trip!

That was at the MREA property east of Point, where the Energy Fair is held.

It’s been chilly here on “the Island”…only 49 yesterday and I heard the northern part of the state actually got hit by a snowstorm. It’s bright and sunny again today though.
They have a “Barefoot Mardi Gras Parade” on our beach Feb. 22…I’ve collected lots of beads the last couple of years…they make great swag šOconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)

for 02-07-2020. Stay safe out there this weekend all!I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

02/07/2020 at 4:41 pm #2065786It was gorgeous again today.Ā We hear next week might kind of suck, so today we were on the Natchez Trace a bit.Ā Explored Emerald Mound, the second largest second only to the one at Cahokia, visited Locust Inn and surroundings and hiked halfway up an original section of the Trace.Ā We hope to do the rest maybe this weekend from the other end.Ā Tonight I don’t have to cook again; we’re heading up to the Natchez Brewery for pizza and, well…beer.
Oh, and here’s something crazy….we got talking to a couple getting ready to bike halfway up the Trace.Ā Turns out they’re from back home, the guy taught in one of the school districts where Trekkin’ taught and knows some common friends.Ā Seriously, what are the odds?
Eat some chili for us tomorrow.Ā Not sure what we’ll do, but I know we’ll be outside again.

02/08/2020 at 7:50 pm #2065789It was chili in Hillsboro today! YUM!!
02/08/2020 at 11:47 pm #2065791It doesn’t seem fair that the snow was melting off my truck sitting in the parking lot of the Hillsboro Brewing Company this afternoon, and tomorrow it’s going to be buried under 5 – 9 inches.
