04/16/2020 at 3:55 pm #2066298In the past few days I’ve had people discover at TB of ours that was lost at Aztalan years ago. The weird thing is that the logs make sense as someone that knows caching, and not just some spam bug.
I messaged the first person, their log said, that they had discovered it, but didn’t mention where they saw it. They said they had forgotten their password, but didn’t know anything about it – and that I wasn’t the only one messaging him. The second one was really puzzling.
The next one came from South Africa, saying they had discovered it while on lockdown in South Africa! By the time I got to their account to ask them about it, they had already had email and messaging locked down by GZ.
Checking my TB, both logs have already been scrubbed. Ideas?

04/16/2020 at 5:38 pm #2066301I use a 23 foot long extension pole to clean off the solar panels on my roof. This morning one section of the pole wouldn’t extend. After disassembling it, I found that one of the pieces was broken. I’ve had this pole for over two years, well past the one year warranty period. I contacted the manufacturer, “Mr. Longarm,” and was told that they would replace that part free of charge. I just had to pay $3.90 for shipping. The customer service rep even offered me a replacement for the same part for the second section of the pole, even though it was not broken. I told her that it was fine, but she suggested that I get it now so that I would have a spare in case it broke in the future. How’s that for customer service?
And even better, the replacement parts arrived in the mail today, two days from when I called, sent from Missouri. The masks that Betty ordered on April 5, on the other hand, have not even been shipped yet.

This sounds like a combination of things. There has been a list of trackable codes floating around Facebook for at least a few months now. I also had a discovery on one of mine that was presumed lost. I reached out the person logging who admitted they got it from a list, and assumed it was made with permission. He apologized and said I was free to delete his log, which I subsequently did.
It also sounds like some geocaching accounts may have been compromised and the perpetrators are up to no good. I’m sort of impressed if HQ is already cleaning up after them.
My comments are mine alone and may not necessarily reflect an official stance of the WGA Board of Directors.
04/16/2020 at 6:53 pm #2066303It looks like it’ll be a while before my new caches will get published 🙁 And my annual fishing trip in a month is now officially cancelled 🙁 🙁 🙁

We had pretty much the same thing yesterday. A coin of ours, which has never circulated and is in our possession, was discovered by someone in South Africa. When we checked, the log did not appear on the coin’s page. Very puzzling!

My Hodag also wanted to cancel your birthday, but I overruled that decision.

04/17/2020 at 1:49 pm #2066308TB discoveries are likely just the latest round of armchair TB logging happening trying random codes. GC likely either got word or noticed the activity and disabled the account and deleted logs.

The same discovery message from South Africa came to us yesterday as well. It is a trackable which is secured to my wife’s walking stick. It has never been circulated or discovered by anyone else, it simply travels with us from cache to cache and gets logged as such (when we remember to do so).
04/17/2020 at 2:36 pm #2066310Eeeek! I haven’t been on here in awhile. So much easier when my routine was normal and I opened up all of my web pages when I got into work. And now, since we are remote, any type of internet browsing or music streaming slows the system down immensely!
I actually think I am working more hours since being at home. The other day I started at 5am and didn’t finish until 5:45pm. So today, I was done at 2 when I normally work until 3. And, I will be the first to say that I have the worst co-worker ever! Mr. Piffles wants his ears scratched and to be petted constantly. He’s always in my inbox and gets crabby at me when I try to get my work out from under him.
As a side note, the demand for garbage bags has gone up 5,000% in the last month.

Wine is an essential staple here also. But, it seems that we have an endless supply of it.

We have a fair stockpile of wine, too. This is for my mom, who lives in an assisted living facility. She has a small glass of wine in the evening. She discovered wine-in-a-box before she moved to the assisted living, and a box lasts her 2 weeks or more.
