Saw a few flakes here but now the sun is shining.
03/22/2015 at 11:51 am #2037646. Nothing turns out the way you plan. Adaptation determines your happiness, at least that is what I keep trying to tell myself.
in the words of John Kabat Zinn….”Wherever you go, there you are.”
Life truly is easier and happier when a person is open to what is.
03/22/2015 at 12:09 pm #2037647My older brother would not hold our children, because he said holding babies is contagious. My brothers both had children within a year of holding my younger one. Just a piece of friendly advice.
And those babies sometimes turn into teen monsters. 😉
There are parents and then there are aunts and uncles. Heading out to a birthday party for our seven-year-old great-niece. Lots of Little Pony, Hello Kitty, and Barbie Super-Hero, is our understanding. Hope the craphas stays away till we get back home.
03/22/2015 at 12:12 pm #2037648I prefer a little life manipulating.
Birdin, I will be glad when all the “paperwork” is over and done with this retiring process. Hopefully, that part will be over next week. Do any of you retirees remember if you got a double payment with the first one. Example: official retirement date is Jan 1 and a SS payment doesn’t come until March, do you get Jan & Feb in March? One of the BIG questions!
03/22/2015 at 12:42 pm #2037649I can’t help you with that one, since we took early retirement. We have about three more years to figure all that out…at least we’ve been able to avoid drawing from anything other than our monthly pension. We’re starting to read up, though. The retirement happened suddenly and we lucked out for having so little time to investigate options.

Such serious talk for page 222The best sig is no sig.
03/22/2015 at 2:55 pm #2037652Gywn, I guess you could say I took early retirement too, with my school/state pension but now I am old enough for SS retirement and we have been advised by a financial planner to take it at 62 for me since Phil is taking his at 66.
Noonan, this is something you should be thinking about NOW.
03/22/2015 at 5:40 pm #2037654I just started getting Social Security. I was entitled to January, but they pay after the fact, so my January payment came in February. With my birthdate, my payment gets deposited on the fourth Wednesday of the month. I should get my second payment (February’s) this week, There was no double payment.
You can submit your application for Social Security no more than 90 days before you are eligible or want payments to begin. If you apply after you are eligible and want it to go back to the date you wanted it to start (if you can), I suppose you could get a double payment in there somehow. Or not. It takes a while for the process to be completed. I applied before Thanksgiving, and I didn’t hear anything till Christmas Eve.
03/22/2015 at 5:40 pm #2037655We both took our SS at age 62 after being advised to also by our financial planner. Don’t remember getting any back pay or double payments. That’s why you apply 3 months before you start.
