I just finished watching two rabbits making sweet love in my backyard under my patio table. Those terrorists will be multiplying soon.
05/07/2015 at 7:08 am #2039563LN, how is your granddaughter doing?

She is doing better. They have determined the seizure was due to a spike in temperature. She was quite tired yesterday. They just have to monitor her temperature closely. No neurological damage. It was scary.

Spotted one at the bird bath freshening up after his long trip.

Sounds like she possibly had an infantile febrile seizure, which is scary but usually not dangerous. My mom was a peds neuro nurse before I was born, and I have vivid memories when I was a teen of the neighbor’s daughter visiting with her baby and freaking out when that happened. Mom was there for them and helped them through it until they could get to the doctor’s, and that’s how I learned about such things. Glad to hear she’s doing better.

I did a little urban birdin’ this morning while grabbing a few geocaches. I spotted a few baltimore orioles and white crowned sparrows among the usual avians. I was excited to see Juneau Pond’s resident black crowned night heron as well.
Mrs. BBG is deliberating. I hope it was an interesting case she was able to hear the past few days.
05/07/2015 at 1:55 pm #2039571I put out my hummingbird and oriole feeders yesterday…hoping the warm weather brings them north soon.
Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
05/07/2015 at 2:11 pm #2039572I haven’t seen one darn hummingbird yet. Everyone else in the county apparently has, though. Oh well.
I finished one of the two “must do” jobs keeping me from my birding today. Birding club newsletter is done and delivered. One down, one to go.
I would love a good look at a Black Crowned Night Heron (adult) in my own county. They are pretty cool. Things are too dry around here. The ponds where they are spotted some years….are not ponds right now. 🙁 I am three birds away from 300 North American birds on my life list. There are four warbler species that come through most years that I haven’t seen, so if I would work at it, I should get there. I’m just lazy, I guess. I might head out for a bit this evening, though.
If I get that other job done, that is. Birding during migration is a great reward to motivate me to get stuff done!

I’m always amazed at how they find the feeders. At the cottage up north in the National Forest, no flowers, pines, sand and rocks. I put the feeders out when I go up and before long I have anywhere from a couple to 8 at a time.
05/07/2015 at 4:57 pm #2039576Saw 1 hummingbird and 2 orioles today.
Guess I have a cache to find…
05/07/2015 at 5:02 pm #2039577I put a picture in my log:

We put up a hummingbird feeder for the first time last weekend, no visitors yet. We are adding brightly colored plants this weekend, we hope it helps.
I saw a horrific motorcycle accident on my way to get the wife from the courthouse. I hope the helmetless gentleman lives.
05/07/2015 at 5:37 pm #2039579I absolutely love hummingbirds…
Granddaughter is back to running a temperature today…it was up to 102 again. They just don’t know what is up. Sigh…praying they get it figured out. New parents – kind of scary. Gwyn – what you posted is true – I have heard that from a number of people….so it is good news to know. Just wish she would kick the temperature….

05/07/2015 at 6:15 pm #2039581Scout leaders awards banquet tonight. I’d skip it but Little Jim recently started working for Samoset Council and I think he’d be disappointed if I didn’t show.
