Think I saw a monarch fly across the road today

06/05/2015 at 10:57 pm #2040334My peonies are starting to bloom.
My kids are nuts. It’s 60 some degrees today and just because the pool opened, they had to go. About an hour later they were frozen and ready to leave.
Planted lettuce and dill today along with tomatoes, broccoli, green beans, carrots, and jalapeno peppers. The green beans popped their little heads out today. Need to transplant basil and oregano yet.

06/06/2015 at 8:46 am #2040340WAKE UP!
06/06/2015 at 11:24 am #2040341Nothing like bad (but not completely unexpected) news on a Saturday. My dad is going to have to have his leg amputated from the knee down. Diabetes related in spite of valiant efforts to prevent this. The hope is they can hold off until after my nephew’s wedding in Duluth next month. I think he’s pretty much holding on to life for that, anyway. If I can convince my older son and his little entourage to come, we’ll all be there…..which would be a big deal for Dad. And all of us, really.
06/06/2015 at 1:38 pm #2040342I’m so sorry to hear that Gwyn! That must be really hard. I’m sure it will mean a lot to him to have you there.

06/06/2015 at 2:07 pm #2040347Thanks Becca. Beyond the obvious, we’re hoping he’ll be able to attend the wedding. We should have a better idea about that on Monday. Wouldn’t things be grand if we could just all live out life for a good long while, then die peacefully in your roving chair after a day gardening?
06/06/2015 at 7:28 pm #2040349I was born and raised in central Wisconsin and never saw a tick until I was 22yrs old. At that time I was in the army and in Minnesota. I probably didn’t see another for another 20yrs.
Today I did some work in the back yard and picked two off me after supper. Yesterday I got my mail out of the mailbox and there was one on my mail. Last night I detected one on me at about 1am, it waited until morning.
I guess I need to do some caching, at least when I am out in the woods I’ve got some protection.
06/06/2015 at 10:27 pm #2040350Picked up the ferry cache at the Merrimac Ferry crossing. Beautiful day for a bike ride.
06/07/2015 at 12:30 am #2040353I can’t remember getting a tick growing up either and I would spend most days either on the woods or fallow fields on the southern edge of Marinette.
Haven’t had one out here either, but people I have cached with have. The best sig is no sig.
06/07/2015 at 7:12 am #2040355Wish I had a rain gauge. Rained very hard over night.

06/07/2015 at 7:49 am #2040356Years ago I had a friend who didn’t have a rain gauge. He used to judge the rainfall by the amount of water in a bucket out back.
If memory serves me we got quite a few 6-7″ rainfalls.
06/07/2015 at 9:01 am #2040357Six-tenths in the Sandland rain gauge. Big Jim, you need to let Bill know what to get you for Father’s Day…
And I made the mistake of leaving the newly purchased cucumber plants at ground level without any Liquid Fence protection. The mini-terrorist got one of them… 😡
06/07/2015 at 9:45 am #2040358Seven-tenths in the East- sandland rain gauge.
The mini terrorists around here have nothing to eat except dandelions.
They love their dandelions.
06/07/2015 at 9:52 am #2040359Off to the Mead Wildlife Area. If you’re in the area stop by and say hello.
