06/18/2015 at 8:59 am #2040633Driver, navigator, log signer, jump out guy. You start with a bunch of containers with signed logs and drop one at the first cache and move that first one to the next stop.
No, it’s easy. First you prepare 1500 film canisters with pre-signed logs. Then you drive along the power trail, stopping every 0.1 miles, toss a film can out the window, then copy/paste the log; “Didn’t find cache so we replaced it.”
Gee. I can just imagine the geo litter that results because of this. Sounds like those cachers are all about the numbers. I don’t do that. Even on a power trail, I like to take my time and enjoy nature around me.
If I can’t find the container, I’ll log the DNF. I WILL NOT replace the container with a pre signed log. It is the CO’s responsibility to maintain the caches. If the CO puts out a 300 cache power trail, it is his job to replace a container if it goes missing. Not mine. I will not do that. I will log DNF’s on the trail.
A few years ago, I was at the Brillion Power trail when it had half the caches that it does now. I rode my bike and did 31 of 34 in a little less than 3 hours and I was taking my time too. It was a beautiful trail with some abandoned buildings on it that I stopped to look at. So considering that I was taking my time, going 31 of 34 in a little less than 3 hours on a bike by myself is not bad.
I just cannot imagine spending an entire 24 hour period just caching for numbers. I think my longest run ever was an 8 hour run in Appleton a few years ago on a 2/2 run in an urban run using my car. I visited 51 caches and found 42 of them. And I was taking my time doing this too. I was in no hurry either. The 8 hour run included a half hour lunch break, so really, I visited those 51 caches in 7 and a half hours. It was a fun day, but I don’t think I’ll do another long run like that and I doubt I’ll even do a 24 hour run like that 1500 cache run. Hell, I have found less than that (1266 finds) in six YEARS – LOL. No way will I go out and double that total in one day – lol.
06/18/2015 at 9:26 am #2040634Yea, not my thing either. Some of my best caching memories are from when I spent several hours just looking for a couple of caches. To me, that’s way better than power trails. But then again, people are entitled to cache the way they want to.

06/18/2015 at 11:53 am #20406401500 finds in one day? Is that doable, even on a power trail?
In a 24 hour period, that’s 62.5 finds per hour. That means a person would have to find just over one cache per minute.
It just cannot be done. It takes time to get to each cache 528 feet apart, find it, retrieve log, sign it, replace log, replace cache, then dash to the next cache.
It just cannot be done.
We did the infamous E.T. Highway in Nevada a year or two ago. It’s two or three thousand caches total and the whole thing can be done in two days if done the way Mister Greenthumb described. We found of total of eight of them; we only went for the ones that had 50 or more favorite votes and skipped the rest. 😀
06/18/2015 at 12:54 pm #2040644My wife would kill me if I even suggested doing that kind of caching.
I got 25 or so in Lakeview last weekend. One cache was toast. Inactive CO but a good spot, so I replaced with a new container. Another one was like the Top Spots hides, only someone drove through top of the T intersection and took out the hide. Found the Baggie with the log. The sign was smashed against a cattle fence 40′ away. Active CO so I SL made a needs maintainence log for it and placed the Baggie in the closest cache owned by same CO.
There are so many amazing locations out here with inactive COs I routinely replaced damaged containers. There were a few I went to specifically for that purpose. A couple I didn’t make it to fast enough and they got archived. The best sig is no sig.
