I saw a robin and 5 or 6 smaller birds at the bird bath yesterday. Thought this was a bit strange because usually the smaller birds vacate when a larger one shows up. After the robin left I got the binoculars to see what the others were. By the time I got back only 2 were left and just leaving, one a chipping sparrow the other a yellowish bird with a full grey head. A Mourning or a Connecticut Warbler just passing through ?

I also spotted another ‘bird’ pedaling his bike up 11th ave. this morning about 9:40.

Connecticuts have a prominent white eye ring.  So many of the warblers look less colorful in the fall.  They’re referred to in guidebooks as “confusing fall warblers.”  So…not sure what you had there, but could have been either one of those.

Right, by the time I check the book the see what to look for they’re miles away.

Were you in Sandland, and was the “bird” a helmeted blue-butt yellowshirt? That would not be a rare sighting at this time of year. 😉

I had to rush right home and check if my yellow shirt was still there.

The yellowshirt has been know to have green wings in the spring and fall. And tomorrow the yellowshirt will not be flying… and he won’t be wearing a yellow shirt.

Pooh’s Pal had a “great day” in first grade.  Aizy had kindergarten orientation, is “a little nervous,” and starts for real tomorrow.
