My daughter and her best friend are dyeing her hair blue!
Oh the woes of the short geocacher!
09/19/2015 at 10:14 pm #2043013Yesterday Mr. S noticed something furry run through the wooden lattice that surrounds the bottom of our front deck. He said it was either a squirrel or a rabbit. We then noticed a juvenile terrorist next door to go along with our two now-grown terrorists. There are several spots in the lattice that have been gnawed on. We have had squirrels forever and that lattice work for twenty years. Never any gnaw marks. We have had terrorists for a year and a half. Now we have gnaw marks. We do not hold out much hope for our bushes this winter, seeing as they were gnawed on last winter… again, the first time ever.
The terrorists ignore the live trap we put out. We need a reliable death trap to use instead. Jar42 needs more of a challenge than those East Sandland moles.

09/20/2015 at 3:21 am #2043015sound like Sandlanders could use a few feral cats or a puppy.

09/20/2015 at 7:36 am #2043016We used to have a lot of cats roaming the neighborhood–not feral, just outside cats. There is only one now, and we don’t know who it belongs to, but our neighbor saw it take out one of the baby bunnies earlier this year. There was also a wandering dog, but it was mean, and eventually it and its owners left the neighborhood. (It’s been a lot quieter this summer.) We saw a Cooper’s hawk munching on a mourning dove in our driveway in late winter. We could use more of those during baby bunny season.
We are not getting a puppy. (The Cooper’s hawk would probably swoop down and get that anyway.)
09/20/2015 at 2:37 pm #2043017Found GC473 as my first cache today. Then headed on to find other ’01 hides and a couple that haven’t been found in at least two years. Quite an amazing area! One spot reminded me of caching in Wisconsin: fallen logs being covered by tall grass (not sage) and aspen trees. I was starting my search and put my hand on one of the aspens before it sunk in that I was in Oregon. This has to be my favorite area to cache! An immaculate blacktop road going up to the mountaintop and dirt roads heading off to the sides with a half dozen or so caches on each branch. Volt drivable dirt roads too. I found 13, there are still 50 or so to find in the area, and it’s less than an hour’s drive from home!

09/20/2015 at 6:27 pm #2043018A lot of driving for a day trip but our visit to Copper Falls was excellent! What a beautiful park! I think I’ll plan a camping trip to that area, including Apostle Islands, next summer.
Two weeks ago we went to Rib Mountain and my camera battery died. I forgot to charge it in between so now I have visited two beautiful parks with only my lame cell camera! It’s fairly tragic.
My calves are burning!

Wow, that’s an oldie! I’m hoping to find a 2001 cache next weekend on the way home from the picnic.

09/20/2015 at 6:40 pm #2043020Becca… how long did the Copper Falls WGA cache take? It looks a bit too far for Linda to trek to. Advice?
09/20/2015 at 7:17 pm #2043021Was really bummed out when I saw the next 2001 hide was just archived in August. Not that it was missing, but just because. I offered to adopt it, but I’d be surprised if the CO replies. It has to still be there because we don’t have cache rescue out here. One of the oldest caches in the state (and beyond?), archived because the CO just doesn’t want to do it anymore. GC53C

I believe that we spent about two hours on the trail. It’s a loop so you could walk directly there and head back and make it shorter. We also made a slight detour for one other cache and we lingered by the falls for a while so if you didn’t do those things it could go quicker. It’s .85 miles as the crow flies (more when walking) from the parking to the cache, though. There are some ups and downs and rocks and roots but for the most part it’s a fairly flat and well-maintained trail. Awesome walk!

09/20/2015 at 10:11 pm #2043023We finished our four-pack today… four games at Miller Park during the season. The Brewers won three of the four we attended, and the other game they lost to the Cubs. Don’t think we’ll do that next year, but it was fun to do once… mini-season ticket holders. If we lived closer… maybe. Today was the only day game of the four.
Sure hate to see the baseball season ending in a couple of weeks.

Everyone knows I am cheap.
Seriously, do I have to do everything myself?
