OK TSers, hubs just got an android phone … who uses one for caching sometimes?  What app?  I can’t have one (selfimposed, cause we would never get anywhere in a timely manner) but want one loaded on his just incase we stop somewhere that looks like there should be a cache there or he is someplace without the GPS.

If I find myself somewhere without my DeLorme, I use the Groundspeak app on my Android phone. It was $10, but I find that it works well for me.

Hmmmm, can I convince my passengers that we need to take Hwy 13 to 21 instead of 80/173 to get to Tomah tomorrow morning? Is it worth it to visit a Rock Pile?

Today is a day full of Adventure. Maybe that is me tonight after a Chrismtas Pparty at Lombardis.

Winter Solstice III in 2 hrs 8 minutes. Hope to see some of you soon in Neenah.

                Aloha.

Will be there, Chris…but it doesn’t appear that I need to bring my winter smiley kit along this year 🙁 Am stopping in GB for a 2fer event.

Yeah, bartrod, if you left smileys this year they would be called graffiti and vandalism.

BigJim, “Rock Pile” would involve a wrong turn on Highway 21 if you wanted to go to Tomah that way. 😉

Everyone, have fun celebrating the solstice! (It officially occurs on Monday at 10:49 p.m., but who wants to attend an event at that time of day?)

What a long but fun day! This was the date of our local Christmas Bird Count. It was pretty nippy out there on the river early this morning, but we saw birds, had fun and after reporting in at the potluck, it sounds like we had a pretty high count for our area…and not all the reports are in yet. Several unusual birds were spotted by various teams.

Coolest thing for the day? I’ve been part of a count team that includes a man very highly regarded in the birding world. He’s been president of the state organizations for Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa over the years. In recent years, he has begun the sad journey down the Alzhemiers road, but if he’s able, we have him come. He stuck it out for the whole day today and spotted some swans waaay across the “lake” we might have discounted for ice on the cattails. Each year it’s been a little harder for him, but we still have fun and he enjoys it too…even if he doesn’t remember it once he steps back in his door. 🙁

Haha late start due to 3″ … did you laugh too?

Yes, however because our district covers 6000 square miles (almost the entire county) conditions vary over two thousand feet in elevation change… We had kids with about a foot of snow at home. All depends upon which valley the precip follows, your elevation, and other stuff I don’t even begin to understand yet. Not like watching the snow come in for days from the Dakotas…

With 4-6″ of snow on the ground, it was like Wisconsin caching today!

Found one that I had to dig out, just like we had to do before we moved out here.

Then, I discovered that kids don’t know how to drive in snow because they haven’t had any amount of snow that sticks around for 8 years! GC3ABJC

That’s a 4×4 truck perpendicular to the road, and completely blocking the road. Neither of the boy’s dads would come to help, and none of the friends would either. Took the picture from the car. I was standing in the roadway higher than the truck. Steep hill and they missed the corner. I was only stuck there for 2 hours.

Info on the house I think we bought. Love saying that, wish we knew for sure we were set to go.

So that’s what snow looks like.
