After almost ten years at the local body shop, it sounds as if our older son will be accepting a new position at a different shop.  He hasn’t been happy there for awhile now.  It’s a big step for him to take out of his (unhappy) comfort zone.  We had Aizy here again while he interviewed with the new place.  Now they’re going snowboarding!

Guess she remembered her snow pants today.

No, they were going to buy some after they left here!

I need to take my truck into the shop tomorrow to have the air bag replaced under recall. I’ve often wondered if those things could ever go off when they are being serviced.

If I hear a bang while in the waiting room I’ll have my answer.

Picked up my new Jeep today…now need to sell the old one. Anyone like to make an offer on a ’98 Grand Cherokee?

Wife and kids picked the movie.  We are going to see Star Wars.  I have not seen it, yet.  I am a huge Star Wars junkie, I have most of the original toys.  I just have not had time with my work schedule.  They said they wanted to take me.  I saw Empire Strikes Back on NYE 1980 with my family.  I am excited to share a similar experience with my kids.

Watching Return of the Jedi right now.  Are we up to date enough to see the new one?

So….after yoga, one of the other “mature” regulars and I were talking about plans for NYE. He said….Amateur night. We’re having a couple beers and staying home, letting the amateurs whoop it up and feel lousy tomorrow.

We’re heading out in a little bit to try the fat tires in snow, finding our souvenir cache hopefully. Then try out a tasting at Turtle Stack Brewery before walking the lights one last time in Riverside. Home by 7 at the latest!

We’re heading down to Goose Island bright and early (maybe) to try and catch Short Eared Owls for the first bird of 2016. I’m sick of it always being a House Sparrow!

How about the rest of you? BBG already shared his plans, which sound fun, too.

Website was down then we had three days without internet service due to ice build up on the repeater station on top of the mountain. Three attempts to get there by the tech guys. First time he tried to walk up there and got through waist deep snow halfway up and had to turn back. Second try was similar, but farther using an old snowmobile. They had to buy a new snowmobile to get to the top. We’ll be (we hope) living just “down the road” although our road won’t get us to the mountain. I think it would be two hour drive to get to the mountaintop from here because you have to go east then north and back west and south to get there. Two lonely caches in that area (the only two placed in the vicinity).

Got a PS4 for the family for Christmas, so I’ve been Minecrafting. Mining sure is soothing.

We had five days of getting 4+ fluffy inches of snow overnight. The stuff melts and compacts during the day, evaporates as steam and then returns as snow that night. We’ve had the town plow go through once in two weeks, naturally, as I was shoveling snow out of the driveway to get into our shed to return the Christmas bins. The highway out of Bonanza wasn’t plowed. They just let the trucks compact the snow and then it melts away. No wonder everyone uses snow tires out here, or chains.

Haven’t found a cache since I got stuck behind that truck. I can’t find a single winter friendly placement that doesn’t involve hiking along a trail to get to it. We’ve had a foot of snow since I found the last caches, most of the ones I found that day would be buried now.

People tell us the snow goes away in January/February, so I may have a month-long slump. No chance to create caches either because I had to take down our screen house I was using as a painting station.

First bird of this year for us will be a dark-eyed junco. There is a flock that finally discovered the bird feeder I put out in the summer.

          Still haven’t seen Star Wars.

          Off to town we go.

Well, that was fun! We got back from just under a five mile ride on the snow-covered bike trail. Trekkin’ was actually stylin’, having bought bike specific clothing for this purpose. I was a hodgepodge of random items of outerwear, but I can say that in 11 degree windchill, I worked up almost as much of a sweat as I do at hot yoga!

We’ll head to LaCrosse later for burgers, then the brewery, then the Rotary Lights. And call it good on NYE!

Sounds like fun Birdin’.  We went and found a signpost cache and then tried out a new “gastropub” in Oshkosh.  They have taps at 4 tables and you can buy your beer by the ounce.  Didn’t try it but something new.  Lots of taps (24) behind the bar too.  Food was good for a newly opened place.

Next I have to go tape my mom’s hand back together.  She feel this morning and ripped it again but didn’t tell either of us until too late to go to the Dr.  If I can’t get it, I guess we will have to go to the ER or Walkin.

Went to see “Concussion” (highly recommend it), fought crowds at Wal-Mart, then found three Columbia County bike trail caches.

Anyone up for a New Year’s Eve party in the drivel tonight? I’ll be good till at least 10:00. 😉
