If we didn’t get out to get our souvenir, I probably wouldn’t lose any sleep. Trekkin’ wants to at least get that. I’d rather go birding myself.
01/01/2016 at 10:22 am #2045573Birdin’: you have to go get the souvenir. I am even doing that. I was able to get yesterday’s too. It was interesting going down an ice slope in loafers. I thought I had me boots in the car. I just reread that sentence. I found a cache yesterday, planning on a few today and I am already back to soundin’ like a pirate.
Still waiting on my first bird of 2016. White ears, the squirrel, is kind of pigging out in the feeder this morning. I think I missed the birds. I slept 8 hours for the first time in a few months. Check that…..my mourning doves just arrived. Three of them this morning.
Star Wars was fun. I am glad it had that 70’s feel to it. But, the Disney Elements were present: Female Heroine, African American Hero, Poe Dameron is gay. The story was definitely an homage to episode IV. I will admit it did not feel the same without this:

The kids do not want to fly kites or swim in Lake Michigan, so we are going to walk the ‘Streets of Old Milwaukee’, if they ever arise from their slumber.
01/01/2016 at 10:50 am #2045574Uh-oh! Trekkin’ is working on matching bird IDs to bird names and starting a year list! Maybe I can convert him to birding from caching!
01/01/2016 at 11:23 am #2045575I doubt that, Birdin’… 🙄
I need to look out the window to se what my first bird of the year is. Back in a moment…
01/01/2016 at 11:32 am #2045576Really, both of us are kind of losing interest in caching. Not saying we won’t, but this business of driving miles and miles every weekend, or going back to the same uninspiring local spot for the latest version of a quick grab…meh.
I’m a little closer to this vision, but he’s getting there, too. If we go somewhere, find the hikes or points of interest and see what caches might be nearby. Look for virtuals while traveling. I’m willing to revisit spots where the caches are “churned” if it means a hike or scenery or something. If we don’t find caches, at least we’re having new experiences. We found a grand total of 20 caches all last month. We hadn’t even come close to that since our first months of caching. We aren’t done caching, but we’ve jumped off the “caching treadmill.” Now he’ll be all competitive about bird sightings! 😉
01/01/2016 at 11:35 am #2045577Wow! A Common Redpoll, I do believe…
01/01/2016 at 11:38 am #2045578Looked out and saw no one at the feeders, but then I saw a bird in the apple tree, and then another.
I spotted the lady first:

… and then the mister:
01/01/2016 at 11:39 am #2045579Am I ahead of Trekkin’ now, Birdin’? 😉
01/01/2016 at 11:51 am #2045580My first bird of 2016 is the ‘snowbird’ slate-colored junco, followed closely by chickadee, white and red breasted nuthatch, tufted titmouse and downy woodpecker. A red-bellied woodpecker arrived a few seconds later and all scattered.
01/01/2016 at 12:27 pm #2045581No bluejays yet, jar42? That was my second bird.
We’ve been having our breakfast before the birds have theirs, but that will start to change when the sun rises earlier.
01/01/2016 at 12:42 pm #2045582I seldom see a bluejay, maybe one or two a year. I’ve put up a new feeder and the birds seem to really like it. The cats also seem to enjoy having a dozen or so birds to watch at the same time.
01/01/2016 at 1:52 pm #2045584I saw a crow. 🙂
01/01/2016 at 3:24 pm #2045586Check off bald eagle x 3 for 2016:
01/01/2016 at 3:25 pm #2045587I seldom see a bluejay, maybe one or two a year.
They are all at our house. 😕
01/01/2016 at 3:25 pm #2045588Second FTP of 2016…
