01/17/2016 at 3:11 pm #2046172The wife brought me lunch. I had to pause from driveling. Then, I took a short nap.

01/17/2016 at 3:57 pm #2046176Saw “The Big Short” today. It’s a bit complex, but the fraud stands out loud and clear!
01/17/2016 at 4:22 pm #2046177In addition to coming up to post #8500, this is also page 567.
01/17/2016 at 4:40 pm #2046178There is going to be another ice castle in the Twin Cities. I’d like to see it. They have fire shows on Friday and Saturday nights. That would be more awesome than meeting Elsa…though my granddaughter might disagree.
01/17/2016 at 4:57 pm #2046180I only have one earthcache left to log. This post is 8,499.

It’s only about 60 miles northwest of you.
01/17/2016 at 9:05 pm #2046187I accomplished a lot, inside, yesterday, so I took today off. Did go celebrate granddaughter’s birthday before lunch. Then after lunch we traveled WRR#22 just for fun. No caches found since 1.1.16.
01/17/2016 at 9:12 pm #2046188And now a trip down memory lane…
It was seven years ago today (1/17/2009) that we attended our first social event and met many Wisconsin geocachers for the first time, including some familiar names from the drivel over the years. This would be the first Lonely Cache Game event, which was held in Appleton and hosted by seldom|seen. We were privileged to meet both him and Sagasu, two early big-time players in the LCG, as well as once again getting to chat with marc_54140, whom we knew from attending one of his educational events the previous year.
Before the event, we were running around town “chasing nanos”, as it was called by some folks we met while looking for puzzle finals… all of Team Black-Cat plus GetMeOutdoors, who was traveling with the cats. Still great friends with TBC to this day. At the event we met for the first–but certainly not last–time: zoesbrother, Trekkin’ and Birdin’, and Labrat. Seven years later, and we can talk to those friends about so much more than caching. We also met and talked with zuma, KSpud, Team Honeybunnies, and uws22, and we have run into those cachers at many events since. Last but not least, while we were at the same event, we did not get meet JimandLinda, and Mister Greenthumb and Sunshine. They were not big drivelers at the time, if at all, so they were more of an unknown to us, and with all those in attendance, we did not get to talk with them, an oversight that has thankfully since been remedied.
There were others at that event whom we may have met, and names that we now recognize, but because of the thread stealer connection, we remember those folks the best, and the impact of that first social event for us is still with us. It’s been a great seven years, everyone! 😀
