Just came across this interesting set of stats while perusing through the archives. Here’s a list of Wisconsin’s top cache finders, back in 2003 (list compiled by Ray from Trudy & the Beast). It’s not how many caches they found just in 2003, it’s what they have found lifetime as of 10/2003. That’s a whole lot of what we would now consider old-school classic caches!

100 RainDog02/29/2016 at 2:44 pm #2047338Thanks H1of2 for the list! I enjoyed seeing familiar names from the past as well as seeing so many I do not know. There are even a few active cachers still on the list.
I also enjoyed the discussion on Message in a Bottle so I had to look it up. So few finders  đ  I know I would enjoy a cache like this but it would frustrate me not to have the means to solve the waypoints. Like the comments say, sometimes archive is the best option. Or maybe a finder or local cacher would be able to adopt it and re-align the clues to current landmarks? I don’t know if this possible, but if the site is worthy of a cache, that might be a way to keep it going with someone who is active.
02/29/2016 at 3:48 pm #2047339Unfortunately, cache adoptions have to originate with the current COs. The CO of “Message in a Bottle” appears to be long gone. I suppose someone who wants to keep the cache going could sneak in stickers at WP1 and WP3 with the GC symbol and the appropriate number on each.
The problem with this cache and so many others, however, is that not many want to go looking for it. Most of the area cachers have found it already, and new ones don’t seem inclined to look for multis that take this much time to do, even if everything was there to see. Also, just like Sandland, this location is not the site of power trials and geoart, and cachers have to actually want to visit the area to go caching. Quite a few of our caches languish with very few finders… and I’m not talking only “Granny Squares”! Heck, no one even wants to look for our caches that are on the LCG list! Lots of points for some of those…
02/29/2016 at 4:53 pm #2047340Had an unexpected 65 attendees for our event today. Only 45 were signed up. Luckily Culver’s had plenty of custard. Finally got to meet Susan and Phil.
02/29/2016 at 5:19 pm #2047342We are leaping out for pizza in a little bit. Â I am sure we will see some of the lunch time attendees there also.
02/29/2016 at 8:00 pm #2047351A nice leaping turnout in Fondy this evening.
02/29/2016 at 9:38 pm #2047354Most of the Marshfield Leapers jumped on the pizza, but Swamphog and I went for the chicken.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

03/01/2016 at 8:40 am #2047359I was just looking at a calendar to try to decide when would be a good day to put the snow shovels away. Right now I’m thinking April 15th. And looking at the calendar gave me a bit of a surprise, I have heard of the tax filing extension so I assumed that the 15th was on the weekend. I remember when if the 15th fell on a Sunday, a person had until the Monday the 16th to file. Has the bureaucracy gotten so lazy that Friday and Saturday are now also official days of rest.
03/01/2016 at 8:55 am #2047360We’re waiting for the plows to come by before tackling this 0.3″ of craphas. Yep, that’s what they were predicting for us. I think the forecasters placed the decimal point in the wrong place… đ Might even be more, but we haven’t gone outside yet to check.
03/01/2016 at 9:36 am #2047361The guy on TV this morning said that the band of craphas has shifted so far North that it is missing Madison and Milwaukee altogether.
Those folks must be almost inconsolable.
03/01/2016 at 9:56 am #2047363Especially after all the salting and spraying we encountered down there yesterday. Â Still coming dow moderately here.
03/01/2016 at 9:58 am #2047364very happy that the band of craphas waited to start until after I got home from the Marshfield Leap Day event.
