First to post (FTP) for Friday!
03/11/2016 at 7:36 am #2047805Update from our corner of the world – major interviewing took place during the month of February. We traveled all over – I think I slept in my bed maybe five times. Then off to Puerto Rico for my National Meetings. It’s been a crazy six weeks – and I have a lot of pages of TSer dribble to catch up on.
We have accepted a job – and Mr. LN begins work on Monday the 13th. The job allows us to stay in Wisconsin – and puts us in the center of where our kids/granddaughters are. We have incredible mixed emotions – as we work furiously to do some updates to our house to get it ready to put on the market. 30 years here and three children raised – a lot of connections with people – church ministries we will leave behind….
We put an offer on a house yesterday and wait to hear – we love the house and the location – so praying that the negotiations go well.
And yes – I will now be looking for Host Families for my awesome students who I am beginning to place for the 2016/17 school year – all schools in and around the Milwaukee area. If anyone is interested – or knows anyone who might be – please let me know. Time to begin developing my network in that area!
Changes….

03/11/2016 at 6:58 pm #2047828Checking in. Finally walked our upper 20 acres the other day. Great views, but I forgot to take a camera/phone with me, so no new pictures from the trek, I’m sure there will be many more. One thing that really hit me was a dead pine that was partially burned. It looks like a huge corkscrew, can’t wait to get a picture on here. My wife says no caches on the property other than the Bug hotel at the end of the driveway/wagon. I have ideas but nothing solid yet for that…
Huge flocks of cranes are a couple miles away at the lake (Swan Lake) at the base of the mountain. Nothing available to see them from here, so I can’t see what they are, but they sure are loud!
I have to share this log from one of my hides on the Trail. The only thing that upsets me about it is how the two finders (friends of mine) moved the hide to a less messy location. I had the T rating higher for a reason, now it isn’t applicable to the hide…not that many people are beating a path to my hides yet. Here’s the log:
Luckily we parked over by this cache and did our walking out beforehand. We still had plans for another 3 hours of caching. Looked pretty mucky down there , looked at logs and went in from the east side. So far so good. Spotted cache. Still ok. Little muddy but okay. Got to gz and tossed cache to Miller0126 to sign logs. Sinking but still okay. Before the cache was in my hands things turned for the worst. I was sinking pretty fast. Was probably 10 inches on both legs. Struggled to get free. First leg out but my shoe didn’t come with it. Second leg out. I attempted to get shoe out but the harder I pulled on the shoe the further I sunk back into the abyss. Almost slipped and then called it. Hobbled out with one shoe lost to the cause. We moved cache so this won’t happen to any other cacher. Miller0126 grabbed new cords and will send them to co. Will definately remember this one for awhile.
I did maintenance on a cache today. The land had turned to goo, so every step was a twisting/turning experience. With each step, I never knew if my foot would turn left, right, both or neither – or slide like stepping on a greasy floor. It reminded me of walking to Lambeau Field before all the homes were built. Sliding through clay fields after thousands of other people had walked the same area wasn’t fun. This wasn’t fun either.
There are people from all over the area looking at my 40 caches that still need FTF. I’m wondering who will be brave enough to trek through the slop to get to the nice Trail. Who knows, they may still be available when HP2 gets back this way!

03/12/2016 at 2:06 pm #2047841Almost 12 hour bump. I must be the only one not out geocaching.
03/12/2016 at 2:14 pm #2047843Went to find a cache today, only to find 2′ of snow and no way to even venture a guess where it would be (in the middle of the woods).
Placed a dozen on the way home in a moderate blizzard. The car had a nice pile of snow on it that formed while I was hiking and placing. Walking the Trail through the woods cut down the wind, so it was just a nice winter walk.

It was a great time–we missed you!!
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

03/13/2016 at 9:59 am #2047853I have a clock radio w/usb port that was handy for charging my cell phone at night at my bedside. The problem is that last time change it took an hour + of screwing around to set the time. This morning it took about 10 min. before it hit the trash can.
I don’t really need a clock to get up. I have two cats.
03/13/2016 at 10:46 am #2047855Might make an interesting cache container instead of trash, jar42.
03/13/2016 at 11:04 am #2047856That’s an interesting thought. Do you need a cache container that looks like non-functioning digital clock radio?
A nano could be put in the battery compartment on the bottom or I suppose just a little baggy and log as there is nothing waterproof about this thing.
03/13/2016 at 11:05 am #2047857That would be fun to find.
