A boy asked my fifteen year old daughter to lunch and pokemon hunting in a nearby park. He said she could bring a friend but he really wanted to hang out with her.
……and so it begins.

08/01/2016 at 10:29 am #2051037Could there be a Snowy Owl in these parts, at this time of year?
I was driving West on 21 this morning and saw a white flash off a bird flying across the road ahead. I assumed a Bald Eagle, it landed about 25′ up in a spruce on the corner of 21 and 4th. ave. As I got closer it was showing way too much white to be an Eagle and as I went past I got quick but good look and it sure looked like a Snowy Owl.
Another thought I had later was a Gyrfalcon in white phase but that might be even stranger.

08/02/2016 at 11:02 am #2051054Friday looks like fun too … <b style=”color: #252525; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 14px;”>International Beer Day</b> is a celebration on the first Friday of every August founded in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California. Since its inception, International Beer Day has grown from a small localized event in the western United States into a worldwide celebration spanning 207 cities, 50 countries and 6 continents. Specifically, International Beer Day has three declared purposes:
-
<li style=”margin-bottom: 0.1em;”>To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer.
<li style=”margin-bottom: 0.1em;”>To celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer.
<li style=”margin-bottom: 0.1em;”>To unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day.08/02/2016 at 3:07 pm #2051057In Wisconsin any day ending in “day” is Beer Day.
08/02/2016 at 4:22 pm #2051060I’d be really surprised to see either a Snowy Owl or a Gyrfalcon this time of year, but I suppose it’s possible. Could it have been a wayward swan hunkered down?
I discovered there’s a pizza farm on the way to the upper part of my bird atlas block. They have five bucks all you can eat wood fired pizza tonight. Guess what’s for supper?
08/02/2016 at 7:10 pm #2051062I’d be more surprised to see a swan perched 25′ up on a spruce branch. I suppose there could be an albino version of a different owl.
08/02/2016 at 7:53 pm #2051064What I did this summer:
Shot 60 squeaks (ground squirrels?). Resident nuisance for miles around.
Shot 15 chipmunks. They got the death penalty when they started eating the plants in our garden and on our porch. It went from having one that would come to get the dropping from the bird feeder, scampering around our feet as we were sitting in chairs to dozens of them all over.
Interesting places visited: 0 – although that should change next week when I go to a geography grad class on the other side of the foothills. One place will be Lava Beds National Monument, not sure where the other locations are.
The best sig is no sig.
08/02/2016 at 8:01 pm #2051065I overlooked the 25 feet up part. Osprey?
The pizza farm was fun. They just started this two weeks ago, so they’re still working on the logistics. But we enjoyed spectacular views on the farm and eating pizza and visiting with total strangers. It IS National Night Out, right?
08/02/2016 at 8:48 pm #2051066Called the dealership this afternoon to find out where they are on Big Red. Got the service adviser’s voice mail but she never called me back. She had better have the right answers when I call her tomorrow morning.

08/02/2016 at 8:58 pm #2051067Is it too much to ask that they just keep me informed about what they are doing? This makes 9 days that they have had my truck.
