I had never had Red-headed Woodpeckers at my feeders before this summer. Now I see them regularly, also a couple of juveniles, just as big as their parents but with almost grey heads. Kind of pretty.

Regarding the white bird 20 feet up a tree seen by jar42 a few weeks back:  Today a SnowyOwl, hit by a car in Mineral Point this morning, was admitted to a rehab center in Dane County.

So….who knows?  This is kind of nuts…is it an early arrival, or one that’s hung around since last winter?

It is thought by some that they are being driven South in winter by a lack of food. Who is to say that doesn’t hold for summer also.

Maybe they just followed the smoke here from the Canadian wild fires this summer.

Kids checkup gave them both flying colors. Best part, the doctor was upset about our story going to visit his colleagues in Portland and will connect us with a different Pediatric Gastroenterologist that makes visits down to this part of the state! If this works, no more doctor trips back to WI.

Funny you mention virtual caches.  I was just thinking the other evening that it would be interesting if GC.com could use an engine similar to the one in the latest craze (Pokemon Go) to create virtual caches in places that do not allow geocaches (i.e. national parks, national monuments, Disney, etc.).  I am sure it has been discussed.
