Mr. GT missed his FTP, but we can hurry this page along so he still has a chance!
04/27/2017 at 9:15 am #2054935My long, drawn out story to give context to what happened……
So, ten or so years ago, our church added on a HUGE fellowship hall. And then just used it for our own “stuff.” No outreach. I’ve long advocated for social programming there beyond our doors, and so when it appeared we’d only do the Mother Daughter banquet and the church rummage sales, I suggested we create an open door community dinner. There was resistance. Quite a lot, actually. “We tried that with the Lutherans one time and no one came.” I pressed on. “You need to try more than once.” “Well, then *those* people will show up here.” “Isn’t that kind of what Jesus suggested?”
Finally they gave it a try. It did have a slow start, but now it’s part of the regular rotation of such meal programs around here, and Hunger Taskforce helps with some of the food, even leaving a table with stuff to be taken on the way out. For the most part, we seem to get a lot of elderly folks who’ve lost their spouse and want company at dinner, but we get the families in need, too. There is always a table near the door with a representative from one of the programs meant to help folks who are struggling.
So last night was this month’s dinner. Our son (who grew up an active member of this congregation, and has been kind of shunned, another story there) and his daughter joined us. They left a little ahead of us. As Trekkin’ and I walked out, the “program lady” made a special point of leaving her table to give us a flyer about their offerings.
Guess Trekkin’ and I need to find new apparel or something. We kind of live in the cleaner versions of geocaching attire most of the time these days! I don’t think we need “job skills training to help us find meaningful work.” We did that. For over 30 years after five or six years of job training for meaningful work! LOL

04/27/2017 at 9:34 am #2054937Heading to Mackinac Island this afternoon. There’s probably still snow there . . .

04/27/2017 at 9:46 am #2054938Safe travels! We just couldn’t fit that trip in with our daycare responsibilities and other stuff. Tomorrow is a no school day here, which means….all day with the grands.
Have fun!
04/27/2017 at 10:56 am #2054939Ack! The fact that tomorrow will be all day daycare is not helpful to our alternate plans for Saturday. Attempting to solve puzzles and all but the easy one are messing with us! Oh well. Trying to wrap my brain around the Mayan numbering system this morning. Base 20 and Base 5 combined. I get this stuff in theory, but struggle with application!
And the resistor code puzzle is kicking my butt! Way too many numbers to do a simple conversion for a solve. Sigh. My puzzle chops have suffered due to lack of exercise. Another has pigpen, which I can do, but the west coordinates…..not a clue. I hope to solve the Mayan one and an easy one for the way home, LOL
04/27/2017 at 11:16 am #2054940Happy birthday, Bill. I know you have sunshine everyday but it’s time to get up and out this morning 🙂

04/27/2017 at 2:22 pm #2054943Thanks! I have to fly to Newark on Tuesday and Mr. Evil just told me there’s supposed to be a snowstorm heading our way early next week to the north of us 🙁

04/27/2017 at 2:25 pm #2054944Had to get a robin out of the garage earlier. Hope he just got in there this morning before I had to run errands (buying a pH test kit for a cache we are stopping at in the UP. It may have christened the boat :-O

04/27/2017 at 2:56 pm #2054945Nice little blizzard we encountered while in Stevens Point early this morning. Decided not to continue on with our caching plans after dropping my sister off there, opting to head home by going west and south, away from the direction of the craphas. Roads were OK, but it was not a pleasant journey.
Thankfully, most of the local snow had melted by the time we got back home, but I suppose we could have shoveled the one spot on one step of our deck that still remained. Our mini-terrorist is not bothered by the weather and is happily munching on the bits of carrots Mr. S placed just outside of the live trap. The mother lode of orange lies just a bit farther in, but the terrorist isn’t falling for that. Guess we could put the cage over a tulip to lure it inside…
04/27/2017 at 2:57 pm #2054946Trying to bump this page so the birthday boy gets an FTP 😉

Nice that your persistence paid off, and I think your LOL means you are able to take this in stride. The dinner I help out at is hosted by a church but anyone can come, although it is primarily those in need who do. The volunteers dress functionally, having to cook or set up tables, so I am sure you were fine. I like that you have program assistance there. We don’t, but I guess they figure the people who attend are either getting it already, or can get info on one of the other many meals in our area, some of which are based in the same place they would get this help.

Had a robin make a major mess on my car in the garage. We now have a bike helmut on top of the garage door opener motor and a fake owl in the rafters. Madam Robin is staying out. Maybe helped that her nest got removed before it was finished too.
04/28/2017 at 8:00 am #2054951Sorry, MGT, time to move on!
