Interesting fact while I’m thinking about it. . .In the 920 area code, phone numbers that begin with 834 are based in Oconto. That’s bartrods home base.

09/17/2017 at 11:54 am #2056270FTP for today with a picture from my first balloon ride! (She said as if there would be subsequent rides.)
Hooray! Wrong day but there’s some drone video and photos of Greg’s balloon on FB … Sky Shot Ripon.
09/17/2017 at 12:11 pm #2056271Since I got sent back to the beginning and it said “beer”, last week we visited 10 breweries in MI. Kalamazoo has a “passport” that you get stamped at 14 different breweries and turn it in for “swag”. We only visited 3, so no swag for us. But I sure wish that the Ale for A.L.S. IPA that Bell’s had on tap as a fund raiser would be bottled. It was described as “tropical, grapefruit, silky oatmeal IPA. But alas, they never bottle these special beers. No reliable refrigeration so no growler either.
Got an interesting one at Short’s called Melt Your Brain … Melt My Brain is an experimental Golden Ale brewed with coriander, juniper berries, limes and blended with tonic water to create the tasting experience of drinking a gin and tonic cocktail. Delicate aromas of citrus and pine flow into bold bright flavors of sweet lime with a slightly sticky bitterness. Refreshing and clean, a tasty tonic effervescence provokes the palate for more. Melt My Brain was awarded a silver medal in the Experimental Beer category at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I’m putting this on my radar for next year, hopefully they’re still doing it. Sounds fun!

09/19/2017 at 1:51 pm #2056285We keep it pretty local and enjoy a home brewfest in our area every year. It’s become an annual tradition. Last year the organizers commented that “Oh, you’re that fun group!” We have a couple of nice craft breweries in town that are fun to visit, too.
We’ve been slowly getting our wine tour books for the state stamped when we get near one. That’s fun to do, too. So far our absolute favorite winery discovered this way is actually across the river in Marquette Iowa. Eagle’s Landing.

As we were preparing to move back here from OR, one of our friends and local caching legend H2Oz mentioned they have friends with a winery on the Sandland side of Appleton. The name escapes me now, but if I remember where it is I’ll see what the local consensus is of the place. I remember the web page is very impressive…

I stumbled upon Eagle’s Landing while at Wyalusing State Park last year. Great place! Will definitely be stopping when in the area next spring.

That’s the sort of thing that I like to see in virtual, hopefully that one will be around for years.
