We might have 6 more weeks of craphas, but I have 6 months to wait until my return to Saint Louis.  I was just reminding of this fact by a BOD candidate posting pictures of the Gateway Arch.

Trekkin’ decided to get a smartphone.  I want no part of it.  But…it’s an android platform and he’s interested in knowing which geocaching app others like for it.  Thanks for your input.

I prefer the gps over the phone any day but when I use the phone I use c:geo

C:GEO/Android, for many years has been our go-to caching machine; we use our OREGON only for long treks where battery longevity is an issue.

Re: Phone Battery, if planning allows, we’ll carry a 10,000 mAh portable fast-charge (Samsung) back-up battery, using continuous corded feed, to keep the phone battery topped-off and pretty much up to par with the Oregon, for long periods of use.

Have found most situations where the Android is as accurate as the Garmin, if anything, we’ve more faith in the Android; example: on a major trek …..two days up to Mt. Whitney, the Android laid down a track (using Strava) that was the same going up as it was coming back down…..even though we took a single trail both ways, the Garmin paths to and fro were often not even close to over-lapping….this was up through a high-walled canyon to 15K.  Found the Garmin had us way off – as in, over an edge….) when trying to find specific rock features for Earthcaches, and had to pull out the Android to locate what we needed.

Only advantage we appreciate in the official Geocaching app is the messaging feature.

        hope this helps

How much craphas does everyone have so far?  We only got a light dusting of it in Green Bay so far today.

You don’t have to remind us Rod, just send back warm weather when you come back.

We have 5-6 inches now. Still more to come.

We got about 1 1/2 inches of craphas tonight, possibly with more coming overnight.

In other news, I was just at the East/West basketball games tonight, and they had a fundraiser there.  I bought $10 for the bucket raffle items.  They had apparel in different buckets from both schools, I put my own name in for East since I graduated from there, as well as seven other buckets.  Then I put a couple of friends in for West since they graduated from there many moons ago.  Between my own eight tickets with my name on them, I came up empty handed.  You might be wondering about the two I put in the West bucket.  The winner was one of my friend’s that I put in.  I just got off the phone with them saying to expect a call.

Rod, are you going much further south?  If you cross the Rio Grande, I have connections to have your passport suspended once you get there.  :-p

Padre Island, isn’t that where all the people go missing? I was keeping track of a TB down in that part of the world a long time ago and it went missing. I surmised that someone picked it up and they both disappeared just like that…poof..

One of my geocoins went missing in TX years ago too…such is the life of TBs. And lots of caches have apparently gone missing after Harvey.
Trying to be safe…keeping my eyes open for suspicious characters…apparently the Hodag is still in GB. 🙂

Just got done cleaning up the 6 inches or so that we got here. Hard to tell with the drifting. Got the solar panels cleaned off just in time for the clouds to clear out.
