Headed for DC today. Skipping the traditional detour/stop to see the sturgeon.

Well, it’s good to see 919 is gone! It was starting to remind me of one of Jar’s puzzles – just staring at me day after day with no hope of going away…

Happy belated birthday Rod! Wondering if I’m going to need protection from rain during bus duty today. Two weeks ago we were getting snowed on.

Found my first tick while caching in 5 years last weekend. Not amused at all.

What were the main pests you encountered while living and caching in Oregon?

Main pests? The heat and dust. And mosquitoes. Big nasty mosquitoes. I was at a cache at 6000′ standing in a foot of snow and was attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes. We lived in the high desert, but because of irrigation, there were always swarms of mosquitoes.

I never came across a single snake or other harmful critter that I know lives out there. Plenty of deer, rabbits (jackrabbits), and birds that would greatly expand my lifetime bird list if I could identify what they were. No ticks. No buck thorn. No wild thorny berry plants on the leeward side of the Cascades where we lived. On the ocean side, the berries were so thick you couldn’t walk off the road to begin to search for pill bottles in sign posts sometimes.

I was wondering who was going to be the first on the fourth 😉

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I’ll be the fourth on the fourth.

I saw the theme for the campout.  Will there be beignets and chicory coffee at the Sunday breakfast??  Sad I can’t go this year.  What a fun theme.  I hope the rain “came early” this year and you have a dry weekend.  But not so dry that the fire hazard continues. 😨

I just had a rather interesting evening, one that I never intended to have.  I was walking through my neighborhood to circulate nomination papers for a candidate for the Assembly district that I live in, and I notice a bunch of cars parked along the street.  I didn’t really pay any attention until I notice one car that I recognize from across town.  Knowing that this car belongs to a local alderman who has the same political persuasion that I do, I had to find him and see what he was up to.  I find him on a back porch with the current Assembly rep who happens to be running for mayor of Green Bay – this was a fundraiser two blocks from my house and I just stumbled into it, no idea it was going on.  This is someone I’ll be supporting for mayor next year anyway, and I do fully intend to cut him a check before that election.  Turns out I got probably more signatures at that event than I probably would have if I had knocked on doors as intended, but I think I found where all my neighbors were.

Went out to a Mexican restaurant for supper with the fam. They seated us in a back room, where they were setting up for an event. In the middle of our meal the entertainment began. Everything spoken and sung was in Spanish, and most of the people in the room were Hispanic. Awkward! Felt like an uninvited guest at a wedding.

I’m celebrating Cinco de Mayo by joining the music jam in a few hours.  Sounds like we’ll be playing on the street today, so if anyone wants to heckle, head for Caledonia Street around noon!  I haven’t been able to attend since the first one I joined on St. Pats and it was a ton of fun, so I’m looking forward to it.

Trekkin’ will be busy with stuff for the mother/daughter event at church, which I never attend.  No daughter, my mom lives too far away…I feel like Jim at the Mexican restaurant, a party crasher.
