I watched the Packer Hall of Fame induction and saw Mark Tauscher is from Auburndale.  Did (do) you know the family, BigJim?  I know, not that you’d care too much, as a Bears fan.  And yes, I realize you are not old enough to have been his teacher!

I started my last stretch of preparations for my Saint Louis trip next weekend, I entered a few bills into Where’s George to bring for trading.  I have to make one more trip to the credit union by Wednesday to make another withdrawal to ensure I have enough to trade while down there.  Yes, that’s a thing we do at Where’s George gatherings.

Just read up on the Oakfield incident. Tragic. I don’t think it was a geocacher either because if it was, the group could have used a GPS unit to give first responders their exact location. But they didn’t. The first responders had to track them down.

Good point, Todd. It was a 19 year old from Fond du Lac. My event is on the north end of the SNA and the incident was near Breakneck Road on the south end, according to reports. Sad…

Just in time for my Saint Louis trip, I just spotted one of the new Virtual Rewards in Forest Park.  That was already my chosen caching expedition, but that gives me another reason to go there on my free day on Friday.

I have a metal ammo box that I’d like to put out. Any tips on spraying the words “GEOCACHE” on it?

Buy one of the Geocache stickers from Groundspeak. I’ve cut a stencil out of cardboard…that works pretty well too.

Well I am OLD enough to have been his teacher, but I have not been teaching long enough. That and Mark attended the parochial school in Auburndale. He did attend the public high school and played sports. Interestingly, football was not his favorite sport. His basketball team won a state championship with Mark playing forward. Mark’s mom was a teaching assistant in the elementary school, and I worked with her for several years until they moved her to the high school. She has since retired. Mark’s sister has muscular dystrophy and is confined to a wheelchair. I almost ran into her, literally, at the store today. Despite her disability, she lives independently, and can often be seen manning the red kettle for the Salvation Army or volunteering for other charities. Yeah, I know his family, and despite my team loyalty, I always wished the best for Mark in his NFL days.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

There is always a story behind a story. Thanks, BigJim!

                     for July 30th.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Heading there this afternoon for a Timber Rattlers game. Of course I filtered out the puzzles when loading my GPS.

Gonna go to a park or two to cache before the game. There’s a few parks that has multiple traditional caches. I’m not a fan of stop and go Geocaching in my vehicle. I would rather park once, then walk in a park to find a few caches.

The nice thing is that there are still plenty of traditionals in Appleton.
