i got this from a friend of mine and thought it might be useful.
EASY TICK REMOVAL
A School Nurse has written the info below — good enough to share
And it really works!!I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to
remove a tick. This is great, because it works in those places where
it’s sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the
middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the
soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the
tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you
lift it away.07/17/2006 at 9:42 pm #1763602I have seen this going around. I haven’t had a chance to try it. Does anyone have any personal experience with this method? Just curious.
07/17/2006 at 11:12 pm #1763603This is not a good idea. This is what I believe you call an urban myth. You chance the tick regurgitating it’s fluids into your blood stream, increasing chances of disease. Goes along the same line as a hot match head or nail polish to the tick. It may make the tick move…but it’s no guarantee that he wont share body fluids with you.
The best way is to remove the tick is without twisting or jerking. There are quite a few products out on the market or try cutting a V shape out of a sturdy plastic spoon. Then place spoon on skin with tick in the crux of the V. With one stroke while applying slight pressure move spoon along skin……going in direction of ticks body and remove tick. Clean immediately.
The soap thing is not a good idea.
07/17/2006 at 11:13 pm #1763604Couldn’t this cause the tick to throw up into your blood stream….I’m pretty sure applying chemicals to an embedded tick is generally frowned upon.
07/18/2006 at 3:00 am #1763605I just recently read about this on Snopes. They agree, don’t use soap. They also include other tips in the article:

07/19/2006 at 2:49 am #1763607Try this.it worked real well on my dog.
07/19/2006 at 3:32 am #1763608If you had 3 ticks in a row you could use a spork.

I always have one of these in my caching bag. I have never had to use it but you never know what will come up.

hogrod, you need to come to Bong Rec. Area and hunt some caches there. I’ll guarantee it’ll get some use then.

~CBLOL, thanks for making me laugh. I should have been a little more specific, I do get ticks on me but never have had any attached since I’ve had “the spoon”. maybe it is time to hit bong & do some caches….. ok that didn’t come out right, I mean visit bog rec. area 😉
