out scouting and placing a few caches today and had a mixed bag of ticks.
Had at least two wood ticks and two deer ticks, one really small one.
there may have been more but they were quickly flicked off without identifying first. I have had days in previous years where my pant cuffs were turned up slightly and were filled with ticks after walking through some tall grass. Hasn’t been that bad yet this year, at least not where I have been.Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.
04/12/2010 at 4:32 pm #1926722I spent the last week moving into a new house. On the first day I took the dog across the street to do his business and a half hour later I found a tick crawling up my leg. The day after that my son took the dog for a walk and later found a tick attached to his leg and my daughter found another attached to the dogs ear.
Two days in the new house and three ticks!! So far that has been all.
04/12/2010 at 6:22 pm #1926723I have treated my dogs have pulled just a couple and have not pulled anything off of me for awhile and we are in the woods every day.
04/14/2010 at 3:53 pm #1926724Went on a 50 cache trip with 43 finds yesterday including hikes in a few local parks in Appleton.
Not one tick on me. If I grabbed any, it fell off without me knowing. Didn’t see any go down the drain when I showered. Checked my clothes. Nothing there either.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones.
04/15/2010 at 1:34 am #1926725Noticed deer ticks last week after caching near Waukegan, Il. Did a more thorough check once I got home, and so far so good, but they’re out there for sure.
04/15/2010 at 1:59 am #1926726Just knocked off four of them in the West Salem area tonight.

OK, 2 in the 2 days. Tick bites around the belt line suck! 😡
04/15/2010 at 10:04 am #1926728Cheesehead, you just have to run to the pet store and get the fronline for humans, put some on the nape of your neck and on your spine by your beltline, but you have to repeat this every month. LOL
04/15/2010 at 9:23 pm #1926729did a mountain area run yesterday. came home with 6 of the little bloodsuckers. first of the year.
04/15/2010 at 9:42 pm #1926730I visited 6 caches yesterday…came home with 1 tb and 5 ticks. They gotta start putting better stache in their cache! At least I didn’t have any DNF’s 😀
Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
04/15/2010 at 10:04 pm #1926731Ticks are equal opportunity suckers. One on the Mister and one on me today, both wood ticks, both found on us while we were in the car. Threw them out the window at 55 mph.
04/15/2010 at 10:14 pm #1926732Most I ever found on me was 10 ticks at one time. Happened when I was on a trail in Peshtigo. Was like a 3/4 mile walk one way. Fun fun.
Thought about placing a series of caches on this same trail. Not sure if I should due to the plentiful ticks. Thoughts?

A themed series would be nice!
“Ticked Off”
“Tick Tock”
“Tick-et To Cache”
“Tickazilla”
Could there be any more???? Naw……………………….We’ll come………….in January……. 😈
04/15/2010 at 10:36 pm #1926734I might do it anyways. Ticks are an accepted hazard of geocaching no matter where one caches, whether it’s one or a dozen.

10??? HA! I was up in the Barnes are 2 springs ago looking for a newly publised cache that was way way off from the coords. It was suppose to be near the river and we (the dogs and I) were in a swamp. Walked through some grass lands and such and pulled a few tick off as I got closer to the truck. Got the dogs loaded up was was starting to drive home when I looked down at my lap and all I saw was BROWN!!! And I was wearing blue jeans 100’s 😯 😯 Stopped on the side of the road and took the jeans off and spent 10 mins pulling the rest off legs. Got home stripped in front of the wife and tolder to start looking. 30 mins she got them off of me. We hopped back in the truck and took the dogs to the lake. It took us about an 1 1/2 hrs to de-tick them. I had never seen that many ticks before. We must have walked through a new hatch, but I also remeber that there were more than normal ticks that summer too.
