As Ron Simmons once said…
DAMN!
04/16/2010 at 5:27 pm #1926737If the ticks are out there in force this year, just wait until the Spring campout at Bong! Bong is notorious for its tick population!
04/17/2010 at 2:32 pm #1926738Since Cheezehead managed to creep us al out with his Tick Tale, I’ll just mention that the tent caterpillars are now starting to make their appearance known. 😡
04/17/2010 at 10:22 pm #1926739Saw my 1st dragonfly of the year this afternoon.
04/19/2010 at 12:52 am #1926740Getting ticks are common on hikes and walks in the park, but has anyone picked any up from quick park and grabs such as a Top Spot?
Last year, I picked up a cache at a Top Spot. I kneeled down on the ground to retrieve it as the sign was at the edge of a ditch and immediately made friends with 3 ticks. It was that quick.
04/27/2010 at 4:11 pm #1926741I found one embedded in my neck today after an hour long walk in the woods of Wauwatosa yesterday.
One trip to Urgent Care later, and I still have the heebie jeebies. Ick eww eww!! (Yes, I have my own funny dance now). I have to take anti-biotics just in case.
😯
ick!

Which is why I’m not attending…
05/11/2010 at 3:57 pm #1926743Keep finding the little and the bigger buggers on us. So far, the deer ticks are grabbed of our cloths after a check before getting back in the vehicle (and they seem to be going after the DEET wearer :?:! ), but the larger ticks have had a nice taste of blood twice…….found one last night tucked under the hair on the back of the head…….ewwwwww……….and then could feel them crawling all around the bed the entire night……..ewwwwwwwwwwww! 😯 😯
05/11/2010 at 10:13 pm #1926744Was in Bong last weekend placing new caches and had NO ticks on any family member (or 2 dogs) and we all went deep into the underbrush.
05/11/2010 at 10:37 pm #1926745No ticks on me after walking all over Bong last weekend.
05/12/2010 at 12:31 am #1926746Maybe that early warm spurt, then freeze again ruined their life-cycles and it will be the shortest tick season ever…. 🙄 🙄
now where is that “fingers crossed” emoticon…
05/12/2010 at 1:53 pm #1926747Bong ticks are lazy in this weather. They prefer hot a humid over cold and wet. They are there, but they have not come out in force yet. The weather is supposed to be cool the rest of the week, so I’d guess there won’t be many ticks camping with you all this year. The recent frost may have helped a lot too.
05/12/2010 at 1:55 pm #1926748P.S. Bong Ticks HATE Lemon Eucalyptus. But you have to reapply every two hours.

That is great news!
I hope everyone stays tick-free this weekend.05/12/2010 at 3:00 pm #1926750Is there really a different species of ticks living at Bong? 😉
