I’m pretty sure that permathin will work against mosquitoes too, but you’ll probably still want to use a DEET product on your skin since the permathin will only be on your clothes and the mosquitoes will probably go for the exposed skin before they land on your clothes.

Permathin will pretty much kill all insects (including any ‘good’ insects that will contact your clothes)

It doesn’t look like those bait boxes are designed for large areas. The idea is that you place them in a perimeter around the area you want to protect (long term) from ticks. They recommend 30 feet distance apart.

If you wanted to cover a large area, let’s say you place them 100 feet apart. Lets say your large area is Bong State Recreation Area (not the biggest in the state, but on the large side.) where ticks outnumber humans 10000 to 1 (ok, I made that part up!). I happen to know the area of this land is 196,673,400 square feet. If we take the best case scenario (that the land is a square, which it is not), you get a square 14000 feet across. That would mean you would need 140 rows of 140 boxes or 19600 boxes. The best price I found on these was over $24 a piece so you are looking at just under a half million dollars for one medium size park. 😯 Oh, and you have to place them twice a year. 😯 😯 You can see why the government is not looking to use this method in the parks.

So, to be clear, I need permathin on my clothes and deet on my skin, correct? But, if the permathin is the only thing that seems to work on ticks, whats the point of using it, since they don’t bite your clothes?

Or is it because they will mostly land on your clothing first, and die before they reach the skin?

I’m hoping this won’t all be necessary as I’ve contacted the parks we are staying at (Rocky Arbor, Mirror Lake, and Rock Island). All the rangers have claimed that ticks have not been an issue in their parks so far this year.

Can anyone living near the Dells and Northern Door County confirm this???

Ticks will land on you cloths. They will fly through air when the wind blows. Nothing 100% will take care of them. But the stuff will help.
I’m sure there will be ticks where ever you go.

I’m sure there will be ticks too. Were just hopeing to avoid the hot spots. We’ve had our fare share of ticks, and tick bites this year.
