Yup, they are back!!! The harsh winter doesn’t seem to have slowed them down. We were in the woods on Friday and Sat. and found 2 attached ticks Sat. night. So much for the frozen out theory.
Got my first deer tick exactly a week ago while birding. The next day, Trekkin’ had three of the nasty things. They are much hated in this household.
Yeah, the little buggers never go away. They are about a month late this year though. We usually start finding them in mid March.
I found my first one on Friday. Stopped for a cache that was about 400 feet from the road and had a tick crawling on my arm when I got back to the truck.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
At least two weeks ago now I had a day when I pulled 13 of them off the dog and me. Today we were at Mirror Lake and I have had 4, my wife 3, and the dog we stopped counting. A friend told me that he read an article indicating that the harsh winter will actually make the ticks worse this year. It seems counterintuitive, but it sure seems to be starting out that way.
As I was scouting new hide locations for the CITO here in Mukwonago, the dog and I came back with numerous ticks. Therefore in interest of not having to maintain those tick infested areas, we went against hiding the caches there.
