thanks elf drs, that’s what it was. you get conflicting reports talking to different people about treating and not treating. i’ll just follow my vets recommendation.
06/30/2007 at 11:44 pm #1875786Saw the first tick today that I’ve seen in years. Little bugger tried to challenge my leatherman. He lost.
07/06/2007 at 11:36 pm #1875787With all of the biological warfare going on in recent years in Wisconsin such as: “friendly flies” against tent caterpillars, beetles against purple loose-strife, Asian lady beetles? against?, maybe all of these ticks have been released by our state DNR to help fight off all of the new caches popping up all over the place.
On second thought, I do remember back in ’82 walking with my dad and uncle on an old logging trail when the ticks were really bad. After our visit with my uncle, me and dad were constantly picking ticks off of ourselves as well as off of my mom and sister. And those two were never in the woods or brush. They got infested from us. I have never seen that many ticks in my life. I have not been to the north woods yet this year, but it sounds just like back then. Seeing as that was nearly twenty years before caching was invented, I guess my theory has just been shot.

TE07/07/2007 at 6:33 pm #1875789Was out this morning and still pulled a few off but nothing like it was.
But if ya want to talk about HORSE FLIES!!!!! 😯 😯 😯 👿 👿 😡 😡 Mean blood suckers!!!07/08/2007 at 2:49 am #1875790One other note about being bitten by ticks. Of course I always remove them when found, hopefully they are still crawling at that point. It has been my experience that it will take a number of hours for the blood suckers to just get their “teeth” into you. After returning home, I check myself over real good, and if need be I also have my wife or kids check me over. If one needs to be pulled out, the area is washed good and a generous amount of Neosporin antibiotic is rubbed in good, and a small amount just dabbed on for good measure. I have only had to have one removed by a doctor and it was in the middle of my back. It was already starting to bloat up and did not want to take any chances. I was alone for a couple of days at the time and could not see it.
07/08/2007 at 3:23 am #1875791I visited 12 caches today and only found 1 tick crawling on my pants. The tick populations around here are dropping precipitously (right on schedule!). Also, the raspberries seem to be just starting. We shouldn’t have to worry too much about ticks now until after Labor Day (and then at a much lower level than in May and June).

TEOver here, there were a lot of ticks being reported on logs of our caches in the Escanaba area this weekend. It shouldn’t be long now before we won’t be seeing them either. 😀
