01/21/2016 at 9:22 am #2046321So this will be a meet and greet event?

01/21/2016 at 9:27 am #2046322When is the LCG event normally held? And does the location generally change from year to year? I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing it held in the Green Bay area some year.

01/21/2016 at 9:56 am #2046323I’d possibly be interested in helping out. Where and when will the event be held?

01/21/2016 at 11:50 am #2046325I’ve been holding back on this, since I hosted the LCG Event last year, and wanted to give someone else an opportunity to step up. I would be willing to host again this year, same venue: Mead Wildlife Area Visitor Center. It is available for Feb. 20 or 27 and March 12. (It might be available on March 5, but I’d have to check into that date.) My preference would be for March 12. Let me know what you all think.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
01/21/2016 at 12:32 pm #2046327Jim, my feeling is that it would be awesome if you’d host it again. It was a great location!

01/21/2016 at 9:42 pm #2046358Ham Fam, in response to your question of this being a meet and greet, sure, it is “officially” an event to recognize the players of the WGA Lonely Cache Game and to highlight those adventures for 2015 but it is a great time to meet other cachers and find out what the LCG is all about. If you want a look back as to what has happened in the past, on GC.com, go to the Wisconsin Geocaching Association profile page and look back at past LCG events.

The event is the only “Official WGA event” hosted by you all, the members. Date and location is open depending on when and where the volunteer(s) wants to hold it. February has been the month many of the previous events were held.

01/22/2016 at 9:08 am #2046369Well I don’t mind helping out. However:
– Assuming it will be held on a weekend in February, I will only be available Feb 7th and 21st because of my work schedule.
– I have never hosted a meet and greet, and being that this one has a specific purpose, maybe someone else should be involved (a.k.a. that knows what to do).
– I vote we hold it closer to the Eastern part of the state, (Green Bay works for me).
Now I realize these are a lot of constraints, and it won’t hurt my feelings if someone else wants to do things differently (different date, location).

01/22/2016 at 11:03 am #2046378The Lonley Cache Game started in 2008, and the first two events were held in the next two years as social events where participants in the LCG and other cachers could get together to swap stories and discuss the game. Since the LCG is a WGA activity, the organization eventually got involved with promotional and financial support, but it was still up to cachers to organize and run the event. This would involve choosing a location and date to hold the event (convenient for the planners and possible attendees), deciding on a program for the event, determining what if any recognition would be given to top LCG players for the year, and also providing for the social aspect of the annual LCG event (food, etc.). It helps when those stepping up to organize the event have had experience with the LCG, since the history of, reasons for, and details of the game are large parts of what is discussed in the “formal” part of the event. Once the who-where-when of the even is finalized (the original post by the WGA president was for volunteers for this), if the organizers would need/appreciate any help on making everything come together, as in any event, the call will go out for volunteers for the specific event.
LCG events have been held in the months of January and February in the past, and the locales of Appleton, Wisconsin Dells, Horicon Wildlife Center near Mayville (3), Mosquito Hill Nature Center near New London, and Mead Wildlife Center near Milladore. The first two events were hosted by seldom|seen and then uws22 under their own profiles, but the rest can be found under the WGA profile, as Labrat mentioned, here:
01/22/2016 at 9:16 pm #2046408When organizing the LCG Event, it is a good idea to see where the top 5 finishers are located. If you’re going to recognize their efforts, it would be nice to reward them with the least amount of “drive time”, since they probably put on the most miles during the year, in their effort to keep quality caches in Wisconsin.
Having said that, there is no set format for the LCG Event, other than the creativity of the host(s). The BOD approves the financial end of it, once the expected expenses are presented. Select a host and date, then move forward. Back-to-back venues do have some risks. The “I was there last year” crowd will not go. The social event cachers will!
I also realize that the snafu on the website in the summer frustrated a few players, myself included.
Any interested parties can pm me for info from past Events. I’ll be glad to add to the good advice already given above.01/26/2016 at 1:11 pm #2046508So who wants to be added to the planning committee then? Please comment below and I will bring you into the fold.

01/28/2016 at 2:17 pm #2046580I’d be happy to help out, although I must say this seems more complicated than I expected.
I have been pondering “playing” the lonely cache game for some time, what better way to get a full scoop of information than to dive right in right?
As long as there are other members willing to answer what I assume will be many questions, we should be just fine.
Let me know what’s next?

01/28/2016 at 4:37 pm #2046581If HamFam is the only volunteer, then I offer he find a location that fits his location. BTW, any BOD will be willing to help you with planning, we just like the members to take a lead and we’ll help where needed.
Anyone want to join in and help? Who of the top players wants to give to this member led event.
“Helping” can be running some stats or similar things, not necessarily being there and talking in from of the group. The LCG event can be as big or as small as the hosts would wish it to be.

01/28/2016 at 8:04 pm #2046584I would be willing to put together some pictures from theLCG for the event. I know that was my favorite part of the LCG events that have had them in the past.
