1. What if GC.com crashed and all the logs disappeared, what would you reaction & action be and WHY??
2. Hot topic….Though it is a choice here in WI, to log temp finds in one cache…What if GC.com was set up to not accept more than one find/attendance per cache log…what would your reaction & action be on the matter and why??
3. A repeat question of sorts from last yr….What if you had $5000 of WGA funds, to do what you like …what would you do with it????

Fortunatly, I have all of my logs and the majority of logs from all caches in Wisconsin, so there would be little impact to me. THB calls it an illness.@cache_boppin_bunnyfufu wrote:

Logging multiple finds on a single cache doesn’t affect me in any way, so taking the ability away would be another non issue for me.

I assume that you mean that it has to be used for the benifit of the WGA. I would have to guess that this would pretty much wipe out the WGA. I can’t think of anything that would justify using 100% of the WGA funds all at once.
Assuming that the WGA had unlimited funds, I think it would be nice to get a bigger trailer that could double for transportation and also as the download station/information booth at events. Not just geocaching events, but any outdoor event that might benifit from our being there.

I’m guessing this would be the first sign of the Apocalypse.
No, really, if it is not something I have any control over, I have a hard time giving it alot of rational thought. I guess I would start with log number 1 again. it is just a game after all.2. I would applaude GC for finally changing something that has been such a bone of contension for so many. I would like it however if GC would at the same time, implement some way of logging temps for those who want to that would log like the benchmarks do, not adding to your “official” total. This one too is at this point hypothetical as GC has not made any progress toward disallowing multiple found/attended logs after what, 9 years of geocaching?3. Also, answering as if WGA had unlimited resources…
I would like to see every state park have, say, five GPSrs to loan out to visitors to do geocaching in those parks. This would also mean that there would need to be caches in those parks. If any funds were remaining, the balance would be used for education for our law enforcement agencies and the public at large so they would understand what we are doing and what Geocaching is thus lowering the suspicion factor.Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.

Wouldn’t be a big deal for me. I suspect I would write a quick macro to repost my logs. Seems a little implausible, however, given the backup technology they employ.

As much as I hate to say it, this is almost a implausible as question 1. If they wanted to do this, it would have already been done. That said, it wouldn’t make much difference to me.

At this point, there doesn’t seem to be any pressing need for this sort of expenditure. I would suggest we hold onto the cash until a need becomes apparent.

We have a back-up of all of our logs, and also have about 1000 unfound caches in our GSAK that we could go and look for.

This would be the best feature that GC could implement. and if it happened I would be dancing in the streets.

One person should never have the authority to spend that amount of money, so would have to confer with the rest of the board on how to spend it wisely.
02/01/2010 at 4:32 am #1921272If GC.COM crashed, I keep records of the caches that I find, so it would not be a burden at all My find numbers are mine, and I know what I have done. So do the folks that cache with, so it would be a non-issue.
I was on the board when the decision was made not to allow multiple logging of temp caches at events. I feel that one find, is one Smiley. No two ways about it. This again, is now a Dead issue to me.
I have to agree wth Barry, one person cannont decide how to spend any amount of WGA funds. This will have to be decided on by the BOD, and the money would then be spent wisely on progressing geocaching in he state of Wisconsin.

thanks to cachestats it wouldn’t be that big of an issue, it would just take a lot of copy/paste time, though I’d probably write even longer logs on some caches where my first logs just didn’t do justice.
2. Hot topic….Though it is a choice here in WI, to log temp finds in one cache…What if GC.com was set up to not accept more than one find/attendance per cache log…what would your reaction & action be on the matter and why??
I would applaud the decision. We hide caches with the idea of permanency at their location. If it isn’t a permanent cache, it doesn’t fit the guidelines, so it shouldn’t be logged.

I would like to see what membership would feel to be the best way to use the resource. Infusing some of it toward the State Park program does seem to be a good start though.
02/01/2010 at 7:17 pm #1921274Thanks for the questions Anne.
1. What if GC.com crashed and all the logs disappeared, what would you reaction & action be and WHY??
Considering geocaching.com is the primary income generating product of a private company, the likelihood of this happening is 0% I would consider it much more likely that Groundspeak would cease to exist before anything like this would happen.
Hypothetically though, if it were to happen it would not be the end of the world for me. It’s nice to have a log of the geocaches I found but that’s really all it is. I would still have all the memories and friends geocaching has brought into my life. Oh and I run a PQ of my finds on occasion 😉
2. Hot topic….Though it is a choice here in WI, to log temp finds in one cache…What if GC.com was set up to not accept more than one find/attendance per cache log…what would your reaction & action be on the matter and why??
I would not have much of a reaction to this. Groundspeak changes things often with their website. Some good changes and some not so good. By using their website we play the game as they allow.
As for multiple event attend logs (which I do not log like this), I feel Groundspeak should develop the ability to log temp caches as additional waypoint logs that don’t tally into your main find count (like benchmarks). This would offer much more to event holders and attendees in terms of sharing their experiences with others.
If they were to remove the ability to log multiple attends it would be nice to add something in it’s place for those who want to log temp caches.

Everyone else has said that it’s not up to one member or board member so we all recognize this is hypothetical in nature.
More programs like the one being proposed with WI DNR would be a great place to start investing.
Assisting with all CITO events throughout Wisconsin. Many of these event organizers face costs that may hinder future CITO events and we should help with these costs. For instance, purchasing supplies used for the cleanup that are not donated by land managers as many have eliminated purchasing for volunteer groups due to tightening budgets.
Also exploring potential improvements in hardware/software/hosting to maintain our group’s website well into the future.
Finally, investing in t-shirts (kids sizes too), stickers, key chains, temp tattoos and other WGA branded items to give out at future events to help advertise our group. These would make great prizes and would be an excellent replacement for those controversial raffle tickets for event activities.
