    1. The link to Cache of the Month previous winners does not work.

Never mind, after two misfires, it worked.  I guess the third time’s a charm!

Something is definitely wrong with Cache of the Month link. No matter what region I click on, the same list of nominees shows up, many of which have already won the honor and one of which has been archived.

I think something is going on with the Parks Series pages.  It doesn’t seem to be updating totals and then when I click on the main page it doesn’t have the personalized info anymore.

Any luck yet on the LCG Submission glitch showing only Cache Rescues in the drop down? It is almost the end of July. I will reply to post on facebook once it is up so members can submit reports.

Wish we had some sort of answer here.  It’s July 22nd and I know of several cachers that are waiting on this to be fixed.

Thanks to all the LCG players for being patient while we work through the LCG submission issues.

As you know, the only Lonley Cache Game submissions appearing are the Cache Rescues.

Lab_rat and Team Black Cat continue to work through the issues so keep finding those Lonelies and we hope to have good news soon!

fortunately this is a new two month list so all the caches you find in July will be available to submit on throughout August (not that it will take that long to fix this issue). the scoreboard will update July even after the month is complete. (someone correct me if that is not right).

Is it just my computer or is something wrong with this link? I get the same thing this month as I did last month…no voting from me:(

well, it has been a little unspoken test to see the pertinence of the COTM. We missed setting up the July polls, and after not hearing much uproar about it, I purposely did not set up August polls.

if there is interest in COTM voting, the polls can be set up but as we can see from the June polls, only two regions and the series had nominations, only one had one vote beyond the nomination. So four people voted COTM in June.  Are there not worthy caches out there that haven’t won before or is there just no interest. Have favorite points ruined the COTM for the WGA members?

I usually can’t vote for COTM because I haven’t found the nominated caches, and I don’t really cache enough to see something COTM-worthy to nominate.  Sometimes when I think I would vote for one, I see it has already won.  So I am not a person with as much to think about in terms of COTM as other cachers would be.  But thanks for reading my opinion!

“Unspoken” is the operative word. We did not know we were being tested. I, for one, refrained from commenting on what I thought was a glitch lest I sounded like I was harping on something that was being worked on. The perceived problems with the COTM had been reported, but were never publicly commented on, nor privately, in the case of a PM I sent.

Perhaps the COTM is not so much a victim of “favorites” as a victim of social media, as the whole WGA website appears to be. I see all kinds of activities and get-togethers being planned on Facebook, and people are sharing their caching adventures there rather than in the forums here. They even ask their questions in the UN-official WGA FB group, and they make their comments about the WGA website on social media, not here.

I frequently check to see if the COTM page is working so that I can nominate or vote, and when it’s the “broken” page, I move on to some other part of the WGA website. How persistent do you want me and others to be when we see that it is not working? I have brought it to the attention of those who may be able to do something about it, and this is the second time that Bartrod has brought it up.

Perhaps a well-publicized vote on keeping or dropping the COTM is needed instead of an unspoken test.

When we travel around the state we exclusively use favorite points to find popular caches. We used to use COTM, but found it to be an unreliable source for finding great caches probably due to the ease of winning if nominated.

Well that explains the mystery. I’d usually voted each month if I’d logged any of the nominees…even nominated some caches. Apparently this link isn’t getting much usage though. I can see that “favorites” helps identify sought out caches, but this link did too, at least it did for me.

From the few questions/responses being posed anywhere in the WGA forums, it’s becoming apparent that the website as a whole isn’t drawing much attention. Social media may indeed be taking over. And with Groundspeak’s new messaging system and smart phones, issues can be quickly resolved without posting in the forums, waiting, and hoping to eventually get a reply.

I see value in all of these but I’m still a proponent of the COTM and other links that bring attention to caches and cachers. There used to be a link to register milestones. It made it easy to congratulate your friends that had achieved them. This link no longer exists so few congratulations are listed in the forums now. If these kinds of things are being eliminated, the website is losing its relevance.

I agree, Bartrod. I would log each 100 milestone (we had a nice little list going on the old site), and I would check to see who had recently logged one, too. There have been a couple of comments also about the page where one could note the counties/states that they had cached in. I never used that, and there are other sites that keep track of that for you now, but it’s something some people liked.

I like the WGA COTM because it is Wisconsin cachers who pick those, not a bunch of people who attended a Mega or brought a tour into town and gave out a ton of favorites to Wisconsin caches. I also look at the COTM as more of a reward than a shopping list of good caches, although the winners all should be that, especially when there is competition.

I don’t mean to come across as sounding critical, and I certainly appreciate all the work that the BOD and others do to keep this site and the WGA running smoothly, but I’m feeling a bit nostalgic for the activity we used to see here. Heck, even the useless drivel is drying up! 😯

I disagree, Rod. We track the usage of the site and while COTM isn’t what it was 5 or more years ago (Favorite Points do seem to gather more interest than our poll) there still is a lot of traffic that moves through here daily.

Social media may indeed be taking over. And with Groundspeak’s new messaging system and smart phones, issues can be quickly resolved without posting in the forums, waiting, and hoping to eventually get a reply.

If waiting for a reply means looking for help from the Admins/BOD, that usually happens pretty quickly. You and I have messaged a few times on things so we do get down to business pretty quickly. I know I get many emails, PMs, gc.com messages with questions and we/I jump to them right away. If they are questions not directed to the website admins, then sure there may be a bit of a wait. That’s the joy of a bulletin board style of forum which can be pretty similar to social media in responses.

I see value in all of these but I’m still a proponent of the COTM and other links that bring attention to caches and cachers. There used to be a link to register milestones. It made it easy to congratulate your friends that had achieved them. This link no longer exists so few congratulations are listed in the forums now. I agree that some items were removed when the new website went live but those where seldom visited or used. The Congrats! Forum still exists for dropping accolades. I vaguely remember the milestone rankings on the site-guess I never looked at it. I rely on posting my Way To Go’s from seeing the log or hearing of the milestones being reached. The BOD continues to discuss the COTM and how we can continue to make it relevant and useful. Hearing you find value in it helps us to stay motivated.

At work, I have shut off the running of some reports that have been running every day for years but I found them to be of no relevance any longer. I’ve been waiting for someone to mention that “important report” but months have gone by and no one has noticed. I think this is similar to the old Milestone page. When Team Black Cat created the new site, he poured over the old content and discarded that which was either no longer up to date or seldom visited or too intensive to roll over to the new site.

Have you noticed how stable the new site is? The old site had to go away as it was running on software that was no longer supported and was very complicated in the code that had been used over the years to give us what we had and did not lend itself to non-IT people trying to post and edit the website.

These days, the site runs along smoothly on its own with very, very interruptions. Groundspeak changed the way their API interacts with us and that has caused some hiccups in the last few months but we adapted and TBC worked through most issues.

Currently we are having issues with the LCG list and reporting submissions. Yeah, this stinks for those playing but we’ll be flexible. Our webmaster is working himself way too hard at his paying job to be able to break away for the nonpaying job right now and Team Deejay is also experiencing a new adventure in moving to SC. How will all of this play out for us, we don’t know right now but we will adapt and be patient and do our best to give all we can to the WGA and the website. Rest assured that Brian put in 100s of hours creating this new site over 2014 and will not let it fall apart after only a few months of use in 2015. If things get really bad and unusable, then we work out a new plan. Anyone want to be an intern associate to the webmaster?

If I had an option, I’d rather be doing the fun stuff instead of the paying stuff I have to do. If someone wants to start a crowdsourcing for me to do this full time, I will accept it! J

These things you shared are really important Rod. If no one cares, then we are irrelevant. You and many others do care and that why you share these things. Awesome, super-dee-duper and we need to hear them. Nothing worse than hearing second hand there are issues and never being told about them to try and fix them.

If anyone tries to contact the webmaster or the admin/BOD and doesn’t get a response, let me know. Shoot, if you want, contact me first and I can try and help find the right person to help.

Occasionally, I don’t get back to y’all right away but I am pretty speedy as are all the others.
