Does anyone have a feeling on small pocketknives in the caches? I know knives are considered *forbidden*, but a couple times I’ve come across a little one in one of those super sealed rigid plastic packages that takes lots of sharp objects just to open, and then the darn plastic is probably one of the sharpest object on the face of the earth…. Anyhow, I’ve always taken those knives out based on the general “no knives” rule, but maybe they’re ok since they’re practically impossible for someone to open? Anyone have thoughts here?
And I just removed a lighter from another cache last week. It was rusty, but it still sparked. (Images of Smokey Bear came into my mind, lol.)

Target has an interesting selection of dollar items they place near the entrance of the store. I’ve found some neat cache trade items there.
And Walgreens can have some good stuff too. That’s where I’ve been getting the little beanie animals I’ve been leaving in my wake. They have them there for 99¢. And they always have some seasonal stuff that is fun and trinkety.
And in Sun Prairie, there’s an *interesting* store called “Liquidators Outlet”. (I think there’s one in Watertown now too.) It’s sort of like a dollar store. I’ve found screen protectors for my ancient Palm Pilot there for a dollar for a package of 10 or 12! I’ve found some good cache items there too.

Think about it in terms of a school’s Zero Tolerance policy on weapons. Little joey goes and finds a keychain pocket knife from a cache and brings it to school. I’m guessing he is going to be in big trouble if he gets caught.
I think the right answer is * No Knives, period *.
04/26/2005 at 9:19 pm #1749059Did not think this would have to be added but since we found a hard peppermint candy this week in a cache I guess it needs to be listed on the not a good idea list. We have also found jaw breakers, gum and toothpaste samples. At least up in our neck of the woods it gives the bear and racoons one more reason to chew up and move the caches.

The cigars I don’t mind as I’ll smoke those dog turds everyonce in a while, but cigarettes? It’s not an afterthought either, as twice now there’s been a single cigarette in a ziplock bag! Weird.

Weird.nope. no cigarettes or cigars. but once when we were caching, we found a bong close to the cache site. we also found a crack pipe at another place. needless to say i’m still VERY disturbed about those finds. we used it as a wonderful teaching moment to explain the evils of drugs to my daughter. (no, we didn’t threaten her within an inch of her life if she tried them…….i wanted to, but didn’t).
04/28/2005 at 9:17 pm #1749062Some of the scariest items we’ve come across are: individually wrapped pain medication – aspirin, alka-seltzer, imodium AD etc. and a condom (at least it wasn’t used)! These are items, in my opinion, that should not be left either!!
04/28/2005 at 10:01 pm #1749063It’s not a good idea to leave food or similar items because then we would have a woods full of geocaching animals.
Something else to think about…..
Would YOU eat something that came out of cache?04/29/2005 at 12:56 am #1749064quote:
