Hi everyone!
This past month, as I attended my first 4 local – the WBCB doesn’t count as local – events, I found it impossible to determine how to trade TBs at 3 of them – the 4th had a Ziploc bag conveniently by the log book, but I saw nothing like that at the others. So my question is – is there a standard way of doing a TB trade at events? Should I seek out the event planner? Look harder for some kind of storage container? Ask those who placed trackables i a event caxhe if they’d like to trade for one I put in because we still have them?
I’m pretty well versed in TBs in general, just not as they relate to events.
Thanks! Cami
Sometimes they are just for Discover at events. At mine, I like to have a piece of paper that lists if they are Discover or Trade TBs. It is just up to the event CO to decide how they want to do this.
I agree, I don’t like to assume they are for trade when they are laying around and just grab them. Tossing them in a container like that could be a good way to do it. Since TBs go missing so often, I am just doing Hand Offs to keep the bugs moving.

Like the events themselves, there isn’t a standard format that everyone uses for the trading of travel bugs at events. Sometimes there are separate trading tables and discover-only tables (usually only at big events). More often than not, there are simply a small pile of bugs near the log book on a counter or table. Drop one, take one. Just make sure to quickly log the TBs you drop at the events; sometimes impatient cachers will log the grab right away before you have a chance to log that you dropped it off.
Some events also ask you to write down the tracking number of the bugs/coins you drop. Many times these lists end up being distributed to all who want them so they can discover all the event bugs. Some cachers do this while others despise the practice, calling it cheating since you can’t discover something you never physically saw.
That is up to how you choose to play.
