I ran across this interesting article on how to train your dog to help you find geocaches. I hope you find it interesting.

Intersting. However, I don’t think that I would be able to open the refrigerator with the dog around. With all that tupperware in there I get confused. The dog would think he hit pay dirt.

what if you teach him to find magnetic holders … you’d walk your dog through a parking lot and he’d alert on everyone’s hidden car key 😯

Uh uh, no way! I already bought a gps, a kayak, I dunno how many gallons of gas, and who knows what else… I am NOT going to buy a dog to support this habbit. (I will not buy a dog, i will not buy a dog… I will not..) Have to draw the line somewhere.

Besides, I could not stand the shame of being out cached by a dog!

I tried for several months to teach mine to find them and it seemed I was making head way. However, we cut way back on caching because of gas and the training went out the window.

I tried to train our dog to geocache but his paws were just too damn clumsy to press the buttons on the GPS. I thought a possible work-around would be to train him to download caches but he strugggled with the finer points of GeoQuick and couldn’t handle plugging in the cables with his teeth.
