Now that Whitnallgps has declared 100 travel bugs found – I had to check my own total and it reads 51.
Another fun statistic – anyone else want to share their totals?I always try and move the bugs on asap and not let them stay in my possession for more then a week or two.
Travel bugs are just another of the fun parts of geocaching. Amazing that Whitnallgps could find 100 in the first 100 caches!01/17/2004 at 12:43 pm #1736367We have moved 39 of the critters to date. Trudy is the TB fan on our team. We do our best to keep our TBs on hand to one or two and their tenure at a week or two. We also try to place them in caches with rather low difficulty and more visits. Trudy feels responsible for the TBs we move. We frequently trace their movements after we have placed them.
01/17/2004 at 5:08 pm #1736368We have collected only 27 of the tagged critters to date. We also feel the responsibilty to move them as soon as possible. Pat likes to keep track of all of them, which keeps our inbox quite full of notices. Awhile back we were reading a log by a newbie who said he had found a couple TB’s and then said, “I think I’m going to start a collection of these.” First degree Bugnapping! I’m sure he recieved some e-mails about the error of his ways. Anybody have any favorites that they would like to share? Mine was a stuffed Hiking Mickey Mouse with a backpack on his back, that was used to carry trade items for the next finder. Sort of a cache within a cache.
Pat & Bob01/17/2004 at 5:26 pm #1736369We like to move them on quickly, too. Sometimes, though, we haven’t found a regular sized cache in a week’s time, or it’s too full, or the weather doesn’t agree with bringing out 2 kids. I usually feel bad when that happens.
01/17/2004 at 5:32 pm #1736370We’ve moved quite a few of the buggers, including one called “Stinky” that predates the official Travel Bugs. We started him on his way before there was such a category. Read about his adventures here: http://www.rocketink.com/wheresstinky.htm

I still have to write something to gather all of the WI geocachers, but I have over 100 people I’m keeping daily stats on.
It’s interesting to see that the most letterbox finds is only 1!

01/18/2004 at 3:38 pm #1736373Thank you. I’ve added overall totals this morning. Looks likes everything is working nicely.
01/18/2004 at 4:19 pm #1736374It’s looking great!
01/18/2004 at 5:25 pm #1736375Looking Good!
01/18/2004 at 9:22 pm #1736376Very nice program for picking up stats. I notice that there are a few Illinois folks included on the list – is it meant to reflect just Wisconsin or people who geocache in Wisconsin?
Goodluck making this work.01/19/2004 at 12:02 am #1736377I’ve just done the easy parts. I seeded a database of usernames by hand, and then connect to geocaching.com, log in, and view each member’s stat page, screen shot that, parse it, and store it back on the database. I’m storing the stats along with a timestamp, so in the future I’ll be able to do historical queries.
Now on to the hard part: identifying and storing unique WI geocachers. For now, if you see people on the list that are not WI geocachers, please let me know, and if you see I’m missing people let me know. I don’t know how long it’ll take me to get that unique geocacher of WI script working.01/22/2004 at 3:27 am #1736378quote:

Of course, I’m not on your list.
Then Again, I shouldn’t be surprised because I haven’t logged any caches in about 8 months. Hmmm. Maybe I should fix that this weekend…
