Trekkin’ was out for a third time trying to locate one of vtwinspin’s new evil hides yesterday. He had even brought a mirror to try looking underneath the nearby dock, knowing the way Dean likes to hide things, when a county cop car pulled up. Motioned for him to come over, and asked “Whatcha looking for, gophers?” Dick told him, no geocaching, and the officer told him to carry on. He looked a little while longer and decided he’d had enough, and just as he was getting the truck started, one of the city cops pulled up and started looking around where he’d just been looking!
So I guess when they have the next WGA bingo game, you all know who you can get to sign the square about “questioned by the authorities!”

Well he won’t be the only one….I wonder how many of us have been questioned? It’s always a hoot though…unless they reach for their gun.
That is why I don’t like city hides….
01/14/2008 at 1:47 am #1883401I was stopped while checking around the base of a light pole at a rest area off of I-94 once. Geocaching wasn’t very well known about at that time, so I had a lot of explaining to do.
01/14/2008 at 2:07 am #1883402One of my buddies was looking for one of the UM’s in the cities, when a cop pulled up and asked him what he was doing. Well, jRest ended up with a date with that cute blonde officer……nuf said! So, it can’t all be a bad thing!
Someone else had talked about being stopped by a cop, and the cop was having a slow night, so he got out of the car, helped look around and then made the find!!!! A new geocacher was converted that night. Saints be praised!

In fact, I was questioned by authorities at an event!!
Still thinking someone might have put them up to that one…

01/14/2008 at 3:03 am #1883404I’ve been questioned 3 times I think, twice within 2 weeks…
01/14/2008 at 3:07 am #1883405Was tequila involved?
01/14/2008 at 4:30 am #1883406I was mistaken for a dead body while crawling around in a juniper bush in Racine. Worse, the cache was actually at a different location (I made a mistake on a mystery cache), so I couldn’t even show them what I was looking for. Twenty minutes later, they decided I didn’t need to be committed and let me go.
01/14/2008 at 1:47 pm #1883407I was questioned once by a Lake County deputy while looking for a cemetery cache one morning. I think the only reason he stopped was because he saw my car parked there pretty early and didn’t see anyone in the park. I told him what I was doing and he shrugged and took off.
01/14/2008 at 3:11 pm #1883408I was questioned once by an officer on the outskirts of Centuria last year. I was rummaging through an ammo can at the end of a road by a fence near the power station when he pulled up and asked if I needed any help. I explained geocaching to him while he nodded with a confused look on his face, but he said he was cool with it and just wanted to make sure I wasn’t up to “no good”. I’m sure he was relieved that the ammo can didn’t actually have ammo in it.

😆 😆
I had my head underneath the tracks of a tank thoroughly engrossed in my search when I heard, “can I help you.” Scared the ❗ ❓ ➡ outa me and proceeded to clunk my head on the track – ouch! I learned the “hard” way that tanks are apparently targets for vandalism and the officer was fine with my explanation (“oh, that game”) of what I was doing while rubbing my bumpy head.

…and Trekkin didn’t get back out there and try to help…maybe even score a co-find!!! 😉

You obviously have not spent enough time inside juniper bushes!
