Thinking about getting a new GPSr or trying the Trimble thing. Just curious if anyone has tried this or is trying this? Any details and/or comments would be appreciated. Thanks
It might be kind of hard to find advise on the Trimble. They are not very popular in the geocaching community. I’ve seen hundreds of gps’s at our events, but I’ve never seen a Trimble.
My personal, trimble-uninformed opinion would be to stick with something more popular. That is unless you are familiar with GPS units and the Trimble has some features you need, not available on other units.
Software and accessory availablity are very big in my book. I personally want the ability to pick up accessories for my GPS from local stores. If you buy a brand not as popular, you might have trouble finding accessories when needed.
Besides that, I really cant speak for the Trimble. Sorry….
I looked into these a little. It seems like it is essentially a cellphone GPS which is networked to GC.com, so you don’t have to download waypoints. I never got a straight answer as to how they work if you need to download coordinates (like at an event), so I’m guessing it isn’t very easy. At that point, I just forgot about it.
