My “old” Garmin 76csx which was three years old quit after extended use and I loved that unit so much that I bought a new one.

When my well-used 60CSx decided to prove to me that the warnings about installing the batteries backwards are serious- hole burned through the screen- I checked with Garmin. They have a one-rate repair fee no matter what the problem. So I sent it in and got a new one for $150 (rate depends on unit). They reserve the right to fix yours, send you a fixed replacement, or a new unit. They sent me a new unit so I was quite happy. Something to think about before buying a new one anyway…

When you call garmin it depends on who you get on the phone if you have to pay, I have had them fix problems for free both times I have had to call, even well after the 1yr warranty is up.

Both times I have sent my units in I have just gotten Refurbished models, which are basically a new unit. Maybe it’s different when you pay for repairs, but I have never seen them sending out new units.
