OK, I kow how to put graphics and photos on a cache page, and I know how to upload a photo so that I can use it, but how do I up load a graphic I made so that I can use it on a cache page?
Is there a special program I should be using? I don’t have anything fancy, and I can’t print it out then scan it.
Thanks.
07/22/2008 at 4:37 am #1892523The easiest way I found it is to you the “paint” program that should be on your puter. (Located under Programs, accessories.) Copy and past your graphic to the board. And then under “file”, click “save as”. Make sure to save it as a jpeg file. From there, you should be able to use it as you like.
That’s what I do. There might me a very easier way to do it, so if there is, someone please share.

For the cache page you want to use the image on…
1. Go to that cache page (logged in, as the owner), and in the upper-right corner, you will see a selection “Upload Images”. Go ahead and click that, then upload your image to the site.
2. Once the upload is complete, it will show a “smaller” version of your image on the page. Click on that image and it will go to normal size.
3. On the normal-sized window of the image, you will then be able to copy the image address (url) out of the title bar. It will look something like this: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/fb920198-34b6-4557-b6c8-e0a16376e23a.jpg
4. From there, you can use the image on whatever cache page you want.
Hope this helps.
07/24/2008 at 2:59 am #1892525Have tried both but it still doesn’t work. I can “save as” OK, but the graphic doesn’t show up with the JPEG suffix. That’s probably why it won’t work when I try to upload to the cache page.
I’ll try again when I can get on to geocaching.com.

You have to wrap the url address in html tags for it to appear on the page. In other words, using Buy_The_Tie’s url, it would look like this:

What you need to add is: <img src=" before the url
and: “> after the url.
You will also need to check the box on the cache building page marked “The descriptions below are in HTML”.
If you need further assistance, PM me. I have some great and easy to use HTML editing stuff you can look through.
07/25/2008 at 4:00 am #1892527Well, I finally got my graphic on to my cache page. I guess I was “saving as” JPG all right, but there was no extension that said JPG, so I just wrote it on and the thing worked!
Uploading went fine, then I had to fiddle around a bit with the html to get it the size I wanted and centered. Then everything after the graphic got centered, so I looked at what I had copied for the WGA notice on the page and applied that to my graphic. No more centering of everything.
I’m learning a lot of new stuff doing cache pages–never had done anything with html before, so I seem to be finding what I want, then “reverse engineering” it to my needs.
It’s great to know that there are so many knowledgeable people in this group who are willing to provide “HTML for Dummies” and other support for those of us who are less skilled. Thanks, everyone! 😀 😀 😀
07/26/2008 at 4:16 am #1892528You all mind if I jump in here and ask a related, I think, question?
I have added a small cartoon animation to a cache page. That was an adventure in itself. The animation is positioned toward the left margin and I too was wondering what html magic gets it centered on the page?
Any, and all help, would be appreciated.
Thanks!
07/26/2008 at 11:56 pm #1892529Just add before the image, and after the image in your html.
07/27/2008 at 2:40 am #1892530HEY THANKS!
That worked perfectly.
