I have an eTrex Legend H. What I wanted to know is if there are topo maps that I can upload to it. The box says that I can, but Garmin’s website isn’t so forthcoming. The product page for the Legend H has them listed under the maps tab, but when I go to the software page for the TOPO U.S. 100K, it doesn’t list the Legend H as supporting it.

Has anybody loaded any of these maps on a Legend H?

    Do you have mapsource.

If yes I’ve got the basic Etrex Legend and downloaded the following map into mapsource http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/150/

You could email Garmin tech support. I had the same problem when I wanted to buy the eTrek Vista Hcx. There were almost no handhelds listed as compatible for the maps until I contacted them, and I see they have updated it now. I also loaded the map linked above and it works well.

Garmins website isn’t very good at telling which maps are compatable with which units.

Your legendH will work with the topo 2008, but you can’t use city navigator street maps since the legendH can’t do autorouting. If you wanted streetmaps you would need to find an old copy of Metroguide, I think Version 8 is the most current. With the Legend H’s 24mb of map storage you will only be able to hold about 1/3 of Wisconsin no matter what maps you choose.

As mentioned in a post above I would just save your money and use one of the free garmin topo maps from GPSfiledepot. These have more current road data compared to garmin’s topo, more topo contours, and more POI’s.

If you do decide to try the free maps, you need to have mapsource installed first. Some of Garmins GPS come with a Trip & waypoint manager software, which includes mapsource. just install this CD before you download and Install the WI topo maps.
If your GPS didn’t come with Mapsource you can still get mapsource installed. Just follow these directions here: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-install-mapsource-if-it-didnt-come-with-your-gps/

Ok, thanks. That worked. I had MapSource installed on my laptop and just needed to download the WisconsinnTOPO.
