I think I’ve fixed the problem, so if you were having problems updating your stats, you should be able to now.
As for harvesting stats automatically, read a few messages up. It seems the GC.com is doing what they can to prevent stat harvesting. The server that ran my script has been banned, so it no longer functions.
So the site is completely self-serve, which if fine by me. I figure if you are interested enough in stats that you put yours up, then you’ll keep them updated as well.
10/08/2003 at 9:45 pm #1745732Yup! Looks like you fixed it. My stats stayed and I’m on the list this time. Thanks!!!
10/09/2003 at 3:11 am #1745733I logged in active2gether earlier today and added our numbers but it’s not yet on the list.

Now that I see that we find .6 caches a day, I need 1.6 more children to meet the demand, and to be the average demographic nuclear family.

10/09/2003 at 3:30 pm #1745736Even though They aren’t counted in cache totals, Would you cachers out there want a column for Benchmarks and number of TB dog tags (found and owned) as shown on our GC.com User stats? I would, if it’s not too much trouble, Dave.

Unfortunately, I can’t figure out a good way for you to get that number other than going into your logs and counting by have. No problem if you only have a couple dozen, but if you’re in the hundreds with several other states mixed in as well as post-a-notes and not-founds, it may be more of a challenge…
[This message has been edited by Cheesehead Dave (edited 10-07-2003).]I counted mine by hand but double checked with a quick (but rather dirty) way.
I went to MY CACHE PAGE on gc.com, and clicked on “Show All Logs”. Then I copy-pasted all of my log links into Excel.
Then I proceeded to delete each row that had a “no find”, an “archive note” or “regular note.” Basically I deleted all but regular “happy face” finds. I deleted the entire row, not just the contents.
(This was the most tedious, even for 225 finds. But, in the long run, someone with 2200+ finds (ahem…Otter) would find that it’s worth it rather than hand counting.)
Then I deleted all COLUMNS except the one with the cache name. This field contains which state the cache was found in.
(The row number that the last cache is in should match your number of finds. IF NOT, there must be a note or no find row still present taking up space.)
Finally, I imported the file into Filemaker Pro, a simple database program where I did a Ctrl F and searched for “Wisconsin” and “Minnesota” (our only two states) and verified that my counting was correct. I was off by one when counting so I fixed it in my totals on the geostats page.
Tedious, but accurate. If you need help doing this, or don’t have a database like Filemaker or Access that can import excels files, let me know. If you prep the excel file, I will run the searches for you. If you have multiple states, and want those totals, let me know which states to look for. I’ll email you back the results so you can update your WIS finds onto the geostats page.
Please zip your file and email to b_and_us @ yahoo.com

10/09/2003 at 6:19 pm #1745738Searches in Excel by Control+F work as well. You don’t need a Data Base program for this. If you select Replace All and Fill replace (Wisconsin) with (WI) it will change each Wisconsin it finds and give you a count of them.

(Although I think the table has reached the bursting point with columns…)
10/09/2003 at 7:37 pm #1745741States?
If you’re already counting up Wisconsin finds, is there any interest in breaking down every state? Or just leave it at Wisconsin finds?
Obviously the data would have to go on a separate page…

I mentioned add’l states not for the geostats table but more for the other thread that tracks how many states cachers have cached in.
