I had an e-mail forwarded on to me from the higher-ups at Groundspeak (geocaching.com) today. It is from the Director of the Arboretum at UWGB. In that letter she requests that all geocaches that are in the Arboretum be removed within 2 weeks or she will remove them herself.
The caches have been disabled and the owners have been e-mailed.
Please do not place any more caches inside of the UWGB Arboretum.
So what can be done to get to the heart of the problem here?
Is it educating the folks at UWGB to what geocaching is all about?
What are their concerns?
Are there certain areas that they wish to “protect” so they just put the whole thing off limits instead of defining specific areas to avoid?
Has anybody from the WGA or Groundspeak had any further discussions with UWGB about this?
Sorry for all the questions, just looking for some answers as to what is going on here now.
