Just got back from a mini vacation in Vermont and thought I would share the experience in relation to Wisconsin.
1- not as many people active in the sport there – 61 caches would make you the top cacher there.
2- There are locations for caches (and good ones) everywhere. While we sometimes have to hunt out great spots – they have entire state parks that are untouched with caches.
3- Some great historical caches – one was in a old graveyard that probably had not had a new customer since the early 1800’s. Located in a woods and probably only visited by geocachers.
4- If a cache is 10 miles away you can count on having to drive 40 miles to get to it.
5- Roads are mostly gravel once off the major highways.
6- Bugs will carry you away – mosquitos, Deer flys and the worst – Black flies.
7- Caching seems very well received in the state.
8- Not a single cache in the state capital of Montpelier – soon to be remedied by a member of the family that lives there.
9- Count on having to duck under sugar maple lines that run from tree to tree when caching.
Been there. Never cached there. My impression of Vermont is that it is a wonderful state that is wasted on New Englanders. It should be in the midwest. Can we trade Minnesota for it? Both are on US Hwy 2.
Did you have the opportunity to meet any of the Vermont [Green Mountain] geocachers?
Actually, I am a bit envious of you for having the opportunity to visit The gem of New England.
What is this thing of a line of sugar maple ducks in the trees?

I got as far as riding my motorcycle just into the state. See picture of my bike and welcome to state sign on my motorcycle web page. This was where Lake Champlain became the lower Hudson River. Some of the old fort ruins there are begging for a cache. Lots of great opportunites to create historical based caches.
I remember talking to some school kids on a field trip to a particular ruins on the New York side of the river. I said to them that they were lucky to learn history by visiting here and that I never had the opportunity until now. They just stared at me like I fell from a UFO.
