    Hello,

I will be up in Milwaukee for the middle part of November to visit our new niece and do a little caching too.

I am wondering if there are any must do cache and what areas of town should I avoid?

I am very excited to find some of your caches and eats some cheese curds too!

    Thanks in advance!

In downtown Covert Cache ( GC3798 ) is not to be missed it is a bar/restaurant. Trust me, it’s very cool.

I would check out “Letters carried to the Fonz” (GC1FGFC). I would highly recommend the “Bonus” portion of this cache.

I can’t say there is any cache I would “avoid”. Just use common sense and do what you think would be fun.

Milwaukee’s greatest asset is the lake. Here’s a few that are along Lincoln Memorial Drive(Lake Dr.) and downtown. A 2.5 mile drive along the lake that has some great views.

GC22K8K Our Bookshelf – Puzzle, not too tough. A great park. Be sure to check out the posted coordinates as it takes you across a cool bridge to an old metal light house.

GC24ADJ Blue Wave Beach – Earth Cache. Milwaukee has some serious storm water run off issues and this cache is a great example of what’s being done to protect the lake

GC1ZQ2N Battleship – C5 – Great piece of architecture. You might think it’s a fancy light house. Read the sign.

GC28KGF Old Glory Flyin’ High at the Lake – Another nice view along the lake.

GC238MP Port Royal – Hopefully it’s not too windy and cold when you look for this one.

GC6A39 Bonita vista al mar – Virtual Cache – A great view

GC16NRV Calatrava Cache – Talk about architecture? This place is a must see.

GC14Z32 What in the World Happened? – A great view from one of the newest state parks (man made – it wasn’t here when I was a kid)

GC1TM4G Gathering Waters – A great view of the Summerfest grounds from here.

GC1ZQ3T Battleship – F2 – Another great view of the lake behind the Marcus Amphitheater

GCMWZH Pompeii, Wisconsin?? – Some interesting Old Milwaukee history.

GCQJP5 Jones Island Cache – Some more great Milwaukee history that touches on the cultural diversity here.

GC1FK3M Hillclimber – Harley Davidson museum. Lots of history here.

GC13XF3 Aqua Spot – Could have been an interesting earth cache. Great info here at this watershed exhibit.

GC137JG Gertie and the Bridge War – Gertie likes visitors

GC9EED The Joan of Arc Chapel – Virtual cache. Really old history on the Marquette campus. Touch the stone.

GC2BPCQ ZH53233-01 City Of Milwaukee – Easy find. Challenging retrieval in an urban environment.

The other 2 caches fit in perfectly with this list. If you have more time, there’s plenty of caches near the ones listed.

Unfortunately the best cheese curds in the state come from further northwest. Ellsworth Cheese Curds are by far the best you would ever have..they can however be bought online…but nothing beats them warm and fresh from the factory.

Well you are right that the best cheesecurds come from further NW than Milwaukee, but you don’t have to go as far as Ellsworth. The best cheesecurds in Wisconsin come from Dairy State Cheese in Rudolph, WI.

        GC3798 Covert Cache

GC1FGFC Letters carried to the Fonz

We did these on a Sunday afternoon with 6 kids. Our favorites were Covert Cache (we dropped a few TB’s) and also Letters carried to the Fonz.

The kids learned a LOT of history at the St. Joan of Arc chapel and enjoyed the tour.

We couldn’t find Gertie, but will be back to find that one.

We also did these downtown too:

        GC139EV Pere Rocks!

        GC1X6X4 LLMTL

As for cheese curds, a few of my out of town friends buy their cheese at the Wisconsin Cheese Mart when we’re downtown Milwaukee. We just load up the coolers.

Great Thanks guys, my wife is almost as excited to eat cheese curds as she is to meet her new niece!

        These caches look awesome!

P.S. this is the nearest cache to where we are staying.

I’m with BigJim about the Rudolph cheese curds. I try them all, they’re still the best.

Thanks Johnny Cache for the great list. While we’ve done a little smattering of Milwaukee area caches, that looks like a great list of caches to visit some day. We tend to be more woods cachers, but a good list of great urban caches with cool things to see can’t be beat. I know when I cached there about a year ago, I really enjoyed Wehr Nature Reserve in Hales Corners and the caches along the nearby parkway.

I regret never getting to Inner City Surprise before it was archived.

I never got this one either. I went a few times alone, but there were people hanging around and I never felt safe. It is sad, but probably a good thing it was archived.

GCVY11 has a great view of downtown.

There sister store in Auroraville “Willow Creek Cheese” uses the same exact recipe.

I second Union Star’s curds. Actually all there products including the habenero muenster which makes a great cheeseburger or omelet.

JC – Thanks for the list. I think I’ll have to convince the family we need a trip to the lakefront next summer.
