We will be reorganizing our 3 standing committees in 10 days at the annual board meeting. We are currently accepting volunteers for the Membership Committee and the Education Committee. We are not accepting volunteers for the Web Committee at this time, since we just recently reorganized that group.
A couple or reminders:
The WGA has 3 standing committees, Membership, Education and Web. Each has 3 board members and up to 9 non-board members.
Each committee is empowered to enact programs and changes on behalf of the WGA. The only limit to the empowerment is that items considered very controversial or that have a fiscal impact, need to be voted on by the Board of Directors.
All 3 committees are on-line committees, and do not meet in person. The work is done in a forum thread for each committee. Chairs of the committees can be a non-board member, or a board member.
We do periodically go thru the membership list of each committee and clear out the people who are no longer active, and replace them with new volunteers, which keeps the committees viable and active. We did that last fall with the web committee, so we are not accepting volunteers for the web committee at this time, and also since that group is in the middle of a large project, it is not a good time to add more people.
We also have an ad-hoc committee, the geocoin committee. We are not yet ready to reorganize that committee, but likely will after the new board is up and running. The purpose of this announcement is to get the education and web committees strengthened as we go into a new year.
Anyone who would like to volunteer for either committee, may post here, or PM myself, or any board member for more information.

02/17/2011 at 2:42 pm #1943179I would like to stay on the membership committee and possible committee chairman. But I would also like to join the education committee. If that is possible.
Thanks,
Scout02/17/2011 at 3:11 pm #1943180Both committee’s sound good. I think I would definitely be interested in the membership committee but would like a clearer definition on duties (goals, objectives, etc.) of both.
02/17/2011 at 3:18 pm #1943181Tom some of the stuff we worked on last year in the membership commitee was the cache of the month and year. this year we will set new goals from the BOD and from ideas we bring up and other items. as for the education commitee i will have to let someone from that area chime in and let you know what they all do i have an idea but i am not sure.

Community Education Committee
Formation: Committee will be formed within one month of the annual Board organizational meeting following elections.
Purpose: To fulfill our purpose as listed in the bylaws “Educate Wisconsin Geocachers about the responsible use of natural resources and educate non-geocachers about the sport of geocaching.”
Membership: 3 Board Members and Volunteers from the WGA Community.
Conducting Business: A specific Community Education Committee Forum will be set up for all committee members to use in planning of initiatives and lesser events.
Goals: Set up a program to accommodate the numerous requests we receive for assistance in speaking with groups and putting on presentations. Create some official WGA Literature (pamphlet{s}) for use throughout the state to unify the information we are presenting. Assist the Board in reaching out to specific audiences (law enforcement, local government, the general public, etc.) to promote geocaching in WI. Create and maintain materials and equipment for use in presentations or other group activities. Other goals as determined by the committee.
Committee Membership: Voluntary, with appointement by the Board of Directors.
Empowerment: This is an empowered committee. That means that the committee can and should make decisions and take actions on behalf of the WGA as long as they are in line with our mission statement. For most decisions, Board of Directors ratification is not needed. For issues that have a fiscal impact or might be considered controversial, the Board of Directors will need to vote on the issue.

Formation: Committee will be formed within one month of the annual Board organizational meeting following elections.
Purpose: To fulfill our purpose as listed in the bylaws “Provide an opportunity for geocachers in the State of Wisconsin to gather and socialize with one another.” A second purpose is to work towards increasing membership in the WGA.
Membership: 3 Board Members and Volunteers from the WGA Community.
Conducting Business: A specific Membership Committee Forum will be set up for all committee members to use in planning of initiatives and lesser events.
Goals: The primary mission of the committee is to advance awareness and understanding of the WGA among Wisconsin geocachers and grow the membership of the WGA. Part of this mission includes the development of regional events to attract new members and the development and implementation of advanced geocaching training programs for new geocachers to help them grow in their enjoyment of the game. Work with the board to develop additional ways for membership interaction, other than the existing events and web presence. Work with the board to advertise the WGA to Wisconsin geocachers to increase WGA membership. Oversight of the COTM program, working with the COTM administrator.

02/17/2011 at 5:12 pm #1943185Please consider this as a request to volunteer for the membership committee.

03/02/2011 at 4:50 pm #1943186As part of this year’s revitalizing of the WGA committee’s, the WGA board will be setting minimal goals for the committees to achieve in 2011.
For the Community Education committee, we will be setting a goal to organize and execute Geocaching 101 classes in each of the 5 regions of the state.
You will see more on this in the board meeting minutes, but I mention this here in the hopes that we can get more volunteers for the community education committee to help us with these efforts.
If you are a teacher or trainer by trade, we would love to have you on our team. Also, if you like organizing community events or have ties to your community that would help in getting these organized we would love to have you join this effort.
Having these classes throughout the state will help the WGA achieve our mission and also help bring in new Geocachers and new members of this great organization.
And if you can’t tell by this post that I’m excited, let me be the first to say that I am excited to be on this committee this year and look forward to some great accomplishments.
